Energy Medicine: Its Future is Now

The future is energy medicine (1). This is the medicine of the future that will allow us to heal ourselves and others with the power of our minds. It is a form of alternative medicine that is based on the belief that our bodies have an innate ability to heal themselves. Energy medicine is said to be able to promote healing by restoring balance to the body’s energy systems. This type of medicine is becoming more popular as more people are looking for alternatives to traditional medicine.

Observational medicine has encountered several barriers when it comes to the treating of chronic conditions. This has encouraged some people to turn to energy medicine in order to treat their ailments. It appears like an alternative remedy that might sound unfounded in theory yet, in actuality, has proven its effectiveness.

Energy medicine is not a new fad. It has been around for eons. The Chinese have been practicing it over thousands of years as have other cultures. All living things have an energy field and emit and absorb electromagnetic radiation. A person’s health is dependent on the natural flow of this energy. When it is disrupted, imbalances can occur, resulting in disease and illness.

There are several energy modalities being practiced today, including emotional freedom technique and acupuncture and pranic healing. Others are qigong, reiki, therapeutic touch, and tai chi. We will explore these in more detail.

The Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotion Freedom Technique(2)  is another method that use acupressure to relieve energy blockage on key points and chakras of the body.  It can address the emotional reasons behind the illness or condition. By focusing on different aspects of the problem, and then tapping on key points on the face, hands and chest, blockage of energy can be relieved and symptoms can be alleviated. This method can be easily learned and applied with virtually no side effects.

The emotional freedom technique is a form of psychological acupuncture that uses the body’s energy meridians to relieve stress and negative emotions. The technique is based on the belief that emotions are caused by imbalances in the body’s energy meridians, and that these imbalances can be corrected by tapping on specific points on the body. EFT is a form of therapy that works by tapping on the meridians. The theory behind EFT is that when we tap on the meridians, we are able to balance the energy in our bodies and clear any blockages that may be causing us problems. By clearing these blockages, we are able to improve our physical and emotional well-being.

The meridian system is a network of energy pathways that run throughout the body. According to traditional Chinese medicine, these pathways are responsible for transporting qi (or life force energy) throughout the body. Acupuncture and acupressure are two common modalities that work by stimulating these points along the meridians in order to promote balance and health.

The emotional freedom technique, also known as “tapping,” is a form of psychological acupuncture that uses acupressure points on the body to help relieve stress and anxiety. Tapping has been shown to be an effective treatment for a variety of mental health issues, including depression, PTSD, and phobias. The benefits of tapping include improved mood, reduced anxiety, and increased feelings of well-being. The emotional freedom technique has been shown to be effective in reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, and in improving mood and well-being.

There is a growing body of research that suggests the emotional freedom technique (EFT) is an effective intervention for reducing psychological distress and improving well-being. EFT is a form of energy psychology that uses acupressure points to help balance the body’s energy systems and alleviate stress. Studies have found that EFT is associated with reductions in anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms, as well as improvements in quality of life and positive emotion.

Roger Callahan is a psychologist who developed thought field therapy, a type of alternative therapy. The therapy is based on the idea that negative emotions are caused by disruptions in the body’s energy field, and that these disruptions can be corrected by tapping on specific points on the body. Dr. Callahan is famous for his dramatic cure of a client with a long-standing water phobia using thought field therapy. Our of thought field therapy, the emotional freedom technique was born. Thought Field Therapy remains a very popular and effective energy medicine modality today.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is another method that has become more mainstream and is based on the same principles as EFT. There are over 2000 acupuncture points on the body. Energy flows between those points. Needles are inserted into these areas and turned, which can correct the imbalances created by the energy blockages.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) technique that involves the insertion of thin needles into the body at specific points. Although the exact mechanisms are not fully understood, it is thought that acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system and, in turn, the release of chemicals in the brain that can help to alleviate pain.

There is a growing body of evidence that suggests acupuncture can have positive psychological effects. For example, one study found that acupuncture can help reduce anxiety and depression in cancer patients (1). Other research has shown that acupuncture can help improve quality of life and reduce stress in people with various health conditions (2). Acupuncture may work by stimulating the release of feel-good chemicals in the brain, such as endorphins.

Pranic Healing

Pranic healing is a form of energy medicine that uses the body’s own life force to heal itself. It is based on the belief that the body is composed of energy, and that this energy can be used to heal the body. Pranic healing is said to be able to help the body heal itself by working with the body’s own energy. Life force energy is the energy that animates and sustains all living things. It is also known as prana, ki, chi, mana, and other names in different cultures. This energy is thought to be essential for life and health, and it is believed to flow through the body in specific pathways called meridians.

Pranic healing is a modality that uses actual physical sweeping of the hands to remove negative, contaminated energy from the body. Care has to be taken so that the healer does not absorb that energy into his own energy field or aura. Cleansing exercises must be practiced daily to keep the healer clear.  Pranic healers don’t use their own energy but act as a conduit and receive energy from outside themselves. They can infuse this energy into their patients and promote rapid healing. Everyone has the capacity to heal themselves. This is a method that can be learned in a few hours, and you don’t have to be a natural healer to get results.

Therapeutic Touch

Therapeutic touch(5)  is an energy medicine modality that uses the practitioner’s hands to direct and balance the patient’s energy field. The goal of therapeutic touch is to promote healing by restoring the natural flow of energy within the body.

The practitioner’s hands are used to assess the patient’s energy field and then to direct and manipulate the flow of energy. The practitioner may also use light touch or other techniques to help balance the patient’s energy field. There are many benefits of Therapeutic touch. This type of therapy can help to improve circulation, reduce pain, and promote relaxation. It can also help to increase range of motion and flexibility, and to improve the functioning of the immune system. Therapeutic touch can also be used to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

Reiki

Reiki(6) is a form of energy medicine that uses the universal life force energy to promote healing. The therapist will place their hands on or near the client’s body in a series of hand positions. The therapist will then channel the energy into the client’s body to promote healing. Reiki can be used to help with physical, mental, and emotional issues.

There is a growing body of evidence that suggests that reiki, an energy medicine modality, can be effective in the treatment of various conditions. A number of studies have shown that reiki can be helpful in reducing pain, improving quality of life, and reducing stress and anxiety. While the exact mechanism by which reiki works is not yet fully understood, it is thought to work by balancing the body’s energy fields and promoting healing.

Qigong

Qigong(7)is an energy medicine modality that has been used for centuries in China. It is based on the belief that the human body has an energy field that can be manipulated to promote health and healing. Qigong practitioners use a variety of techniques, including body movement, meditation, and breath control, to balance the body’s energy.

Qigong is a type of energy medicine that uses specific movements and breath work to improve the flow of qi, or life energy, in the body. Qi is said to be the underlying life force that helps to maintain health and vitality. When qi is blocked or not flowing properly, it is believed to lead to illness and disease. Qigong practitioners use various techniques to help unblock and move qi through the body, thereby promoting healing and balance.

Tai Chi

Tai chi is a martial art that originated in China. It is based on the principle of yin and yang, which is the idea that two opposing forces are interconnected and interdependent. Tai chi is often described as “meditation in motion” because it stresses the importance of balance, harmony, and inner peace. The practice of tai chi involves slow, deliberate movements that are meant to be gentle and relaxing.

Tai chi is a Chinese martial art that incorporates both physical and mental exercise. Though often considered a form of “energy medicine,” tai chi’s efficacy in treating various medical conditions has not been extensively studied. Some small-scale studies have suggested that tai chi may improve balance and coordination, reduce stress and anxiety, and boost overall well-being; however, more research is needed to confirm these claims.

 

Energy Psychology

Energy psychology (9) is a field of study that emerged out of energy medicine. Energy medicine is based on the idea that the human body has an energy field that can be manipulated for healing purposes. Energy psychology takes this concept one step further, and posits that the mind also has an energy field that can be impacted in order to achieve psychological goals.

Energy psychology is a field of study that explores the relationship between energy and psychological states. It is based on the premise that our thoughts and emotions are connected to our physical bodies through an energy system, and that imbalances in this system can lead to psychological distress. Energy psychology techniques aim to restore balance to the energy system, and thus alleviate psychological symptoms.

Conclusion

The future of energy medicine looks very promising. With advances in technology, we are able to harness more and more of the body’s natural energy to heal. Energy medicine has been shown to be effective in treating a wide variety of conditions, and as we continue to research and develop new techniques, we will only be able to help more and more people.

Whether you believe in energy medicine or not, there are many people that have been helped or even cured of their afflictions because of it.  Also, energy medicine doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive. It can complement whatever conventional treatments you are doing. Everyone has the ability to heal, you just need to know how to tap into it.

Insomnia and Clinical Hypnotherapy

Sleep is critical to any person.  It plays a central role in revitalizing and resting the body.  Those who deal with insomnia are stripped of the multiple benefits of sleep, especially REM sleep which permits the brain to receive the proper rest it requires to function everyday.  Studies have shown that various relaxation techniques including clinical hypnotherapy and hypnosis can help others achieve a better night sleep.  Clinical hypnotherapists can help train and teach individuals to utilize hypnosis as an assisting model to find relaxation and sleep.

Commentary

Hypnosis can help with sleep disorders and insomnia.

Insomnia is a condition that refers to difficulty falling or staying asleep. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including stress, anxiety, medications, and underlying medical conditions. Insomnia can lead to daytime fatigue, irritability, and difficulty concentrating. Treatment for insomnia may include behavioral changes, such as avoiding caffeine and establishing a regular sleep schedule. Medications may also be prescribed to help with sleep.  Hypnosis as pointed out is a non evasive way to also look at treating insomnia. Insomnia is usually tied to stress and hypnotherapy can help individuals deal better with stress

Insomnia strips the body of its most important type of sleep.  REM sleep, or rapid eye movement sleep, is a stage of sleep characterized by rapid eye movements and low muscle tone. It is named for its most prominent feature, the rapid eye movements that occur during the REM stage. REM sleep is associated with dreaming and is thought to be important for memory consolidation. It is also thought to be important for maintaining mental and emotional health. During REM sleep, the brain is active and dreams occur.

Hypnotherapy and Insomnia

Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses relaxation and visualization techniques to induce a state of trance-like sleep. In the context of insomnia, hypnotherapy may be used to help people relax and fall asleep.  There is a growing body of evidence that suggests that hypnosis can be an effective treatment for insomnia. One of the mechanisms by which hypnosis may help people sleep is by reducing anxiety and increasing relaxation. In addition, hypnosis may help to break the cycle of negative thoughts and behaviours that can contribute to insomnia. For example, if someone is anxious about not being able to sleep, they may start to associate their bed with feeling anxious, which can then perpetuate the cycle of insomnia.  By inducing a state of relaxation, hypnosis can help ease the anxiety and racing thoughts that often accompany sleeplessness.  In addition, hypnosis can help people retrain their bodies to respond to sleep cues more effectively.

When using hypnosis to fall asleep, the individual is usually instructed to focus on a certain object or thing and to relax their muscles. They may also be asked to count down from a certain number or to breathe in and out slowly. The aim of these instructions is to help the individual focus their attention on something other than the thoughts that are keeping them awake and to relax their body so that they can fall asleep.  Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility. When you are in a state of hypnosis, your conscious mind is less active and your subconscious mind is more open to suggestion. This means that you are more likely to accept suggestions from the hypnotist or from yourself.

Conclusion

Insomnia is a problem that many people face. It can be caused by a variety of things, and it can have a serious impact on your life. . There are treatments available that can help you get the sleep you need. Hypnosis is a tool that can be used to help people with insomnia. It is not a cure, but it can be used to help people fall asleep and stay asleep. Hypnosis is a highly effective treatment for insomnia. It is safe, non-invasive and has no side effects. Grief Counseling, Happiness and Nonfinite Grief

Human happiness is very subjective and objective.  It is objective in that ultimately, human happiness exists in a state of complete love that can never be taken away.  In this ideal state of happiness, love is ever present and all desires and gains can never be stolen or taken.  Of course, this type of happiness is in impossible in a fallen world.  It is impossible to find love without the haunting thought of loss.  Everything gained, can be taken back.

With this type of fear, objective true happiness can never exist in this fallen world but only parts of it here and there in the present.   Yet, in this search, others turn to even less tenable forms of happiness that pend upon materialism,  fame and success.  These aspects are even more fragile than the objective search of love.   Love, at least true love, exceeds human limits, albeit it can be taken in the temporal world, but material and social sources of happiness are even on more insecure ground.   In themselves, they are not worthy of an end but only means to an end.

Hence, human beings look for happiness in many wrong places and find usually only fleeting moments in happiness, especially if “means” are designed as “ends”.  Human beings will always face tragedy and loss but it is important to understand happiness cannot be found in this world in its complete sense.  So it is extra crucial to place our values and love in only the most important people and ideals. Loss of anything, even the most valued, produces grief, but when value is over placed in only objects, then one opens oneself to greater grief over small things.  This is why it is crucial to understand the importance of attachment to only the most valued ideals or people.  Some would contend this is placing ultimate happiness in God or a form of life philosophy.

Due to human beings seeking happiness in every venue, people experience loss and grief in immaterial and material things.  When these attachment, whether worthy of love or not, are taken from the individual, a sense of dread and grief is experienced.  This type of dread and loss in the search of happiness can also manifest in things that are not tangible or connected to person, but can be losses associated with something that is not even in one’s possession.   Ideas that surround the ideal of happiness in life can also haunt and cause discord and grief in a person.  Unfulfilled dreams,  lack of opportunities, poor life choices, and non touchable ideals that would grant happiness are not found.

Sometimes grief is not tangible but is nonfinite. It lurks in thoughts of a different or better life.

 

The person hence possesses an nonfinite grief.  A gnawing grief that chews upon the person’s existential quest of perfection and happiness.

The article, “Grieving the Life You Expected: Nonfinite Grief and Loss” by Litsa from “What’s Your Grief” explores the many facets of nonfinite grief.  The article explores various schemas of how one wishes a particular life may have turned out and how this can cause discord and sadness in life.  The article continues to look at how one can face infinite grief in life and attempt to find happiness in the life that exists.  The article states, ”

“Nonfinite grief is the grief we feel when we lose these non-tangible things, watching our imagined future dissolve. In Nonfinite Loss and Grief, Bruce and Shultz define the grief that exists when life falls short of our expectations. They say that nonfinite losses are losses “contingent development; the passage of time; and on a lack of synchrony with hopes, wishes, ideals, and expectations”.

Commentary

From what we understand then about nonfinite grief, it is not tangible in itself, but is something that exists within the deepest parts of our souls.  It is a discontentment with how life or our trajectory of life has unfolded.  Some may be unware of it, but it is an overall unhappiness sometimes with existence itself.  Wishes, dreams, or what should have been start to play a central role in the life of the person.  This can be a life of the road not taken but also of the road that one wishes would have been available.  Individuals who have heavy crosses to bear, or wish to live a regular life due to an illness or a loved one with a disease. In some ways for those, this becomes similar to secondary losses of opportunity.

Learning to handle this general displeasure with life can be more for others.   Some individuals may carry a different life view.  It is not necessarily based upon how much money someone has or how many cars one owns.  While for some, these material gains may be a measuring stick, for many, we see unhappy wealthy people and very happy poorer people.   Hence it is based upon one’s own convictions and beliefs in what life means and should be.  It is about the ability to cope and adjust.  It is about possessing a world view philosophy or spirituality that guides one through the turbulent waters of life.  Many individuals do not possess an anchor that holds them still in the sea of life and they fall victim to many false faces of happiness.  They find regret and sadness in things and unfulfilled expectations.

Does this mean we should dismiss such general sadness?  While it is important to find a life view that guides a person, it is equally important to help those who do not possess an anchor in life.  Those with anchors can suffer enough, but those without, can find themselves in far more restless situations of unhappiness.

First, it is important never to dismiss any type of negative emotion.  Why someone is unhappy needs to be addressed and validated.  “Whats Your Grief” discusses that many schemas in life do not turn out how one wanted one’s life to turn out.  For example, someone who always envisioned a family and children, who never married or had children can live an empty life.  Others who envision a successful career but are struggling due to the market may also find displeasure with life.  So, the life or road not travelled can become a painful reminder about the current life itself.

It is OK to mourn the life you do not have.  It is OK to look and see what is currently wrong in the existing life.  This is important for a variety of reasons.  First, it is critical to acknowledge feelings so they do not gnaw at oneself from the inside.  Second, reflection leads to real change and adaptation.  While not everything can be changed in life, there are many things that can be improved or altered in a life style to maybe align oneself more closer to the desired end.

However, in acknowledging these feelings and looking for change, one must also realistically separate fact from fiction.  Certain things may not be able to be changed, or improved.  To be at peace with reality and adjust to the reality is key in finding happiness.  Somethings were not meant to be and when acceptance of that finally occurs, there can a be a peace.  This peace can also lead to alternate opportunities.   Furthermore, one does not need to completely despise the existence one possesses in contrast to one’s desired path.  There are good and bad in both viewed existences.

Again, a strong life view, spirituality or philosophy can help anchor an individual with these nonfinite losses and ghosts, but one needs first to understand what matters most in this fallen world.  If one chases objects and worldly things, then grief and loss and discontentment will be a constant in life.   We grieve too much over what matters and what life has given to worry over alternate losses.   This again does not mean to denounce or not try to find change if possible.  It does not mean that these feelings do not need validated either, but it does mean, we can reshape our ideas of hope and our own personal identity to fit the existence we have.  We can change what we can but we can also shape the existence we have into something better.

Conclusion

Nonfinite grief is real.  It is the road not traveled.  It is the life not fulfilled.  It is the career never started or the child never had.  It is a life long sadness.  Sometimes it is placed in more valuable pursuits, while other times it is placed upon trivial worldly things.  Regardless, it needs to be validated, understood and utilized to either help with current contentment or adjustment to something better.

Grief Counselors can help the sad of heart validate their feelings regarding “what if” or “how it should have been”, but grief counselors also need to help individuals reshape their identity and hope to the existing situation.  These acknowledgements can help a person fix certain things or at least adjust to the existence that is given and find the good in it.  Again, grief counselors can also help guide individuals to things more worthy of attention and within one’s own control.

Spirituality and Health

Spirituality and health are linked together.  Those with more optimistic world views are more secure and calm.  Due to this, those who experience sickness sometimes have a better chance of recovery.  However, spirituality can also be a world view or a sacred philosophy.  This type of moral anchor can help any individual.

Crisis Intervention in Acute Mental Crisis Situations

Individuals enter into difficult situations throughout life.  Some cope better than others.  Others face such distraught, that mental crisis can occur.  Loss, disaster and tragedy whether at once or over a gradual period of time can wear on an individual.  While there are many normal reactions to loss and crisis, individuals sometimes still need guidance through their emotion.  Many can feel numb, or grief trodden after an event.  Others may feel completely shell shocked and need certain gestures, words of kindness and physical and mental aid.

Still, some enter into mental crisis and find themselves suicidal or a danger to themselves or others.  It is important not just a a counselor, but also as a good friend to be able to help others under severe duress or in mental crisis.  Knowing what to say, what to look out for and where to find additional help for them is key in potentially preventing further damage to the person.

The article, “8 ways you can help a loved one — or even save their life — during a mental health crisis” by Rebecca Strong looks at ways a concerned friend can help another through acute crisis mental states.  She lists in her article numerous things to say, look out for, and where to find the appropriate help.  She reiterates the importance of validating someone’s loss or fears during crisis and trying to help them leave the acute phase of mental crisis.  She states,

“It’s natural to feel worried or even frightened when someone you care about is going through a mental health crisis, but you can do a lot to help them.  A mental health crisis can happen in response to trauma or overwhelming stressors that make it difficult to navigate everyday life. Commentary

Helping individuals in crisis and acute mental trauma is important in saving a life or preventing further damage.  Many individuals are not rational or may even be suicidal.  This is not their normal frame of mind, so it is important to help them find pre-crisis cognitive thought.  Listening, guiding, and finding the necessary help are key elements to calming an individual to more rational thought.  Longer term mental crisis is also an issue. Lingering suicidal thoughts may creep in or the trauma may return and the individual may need someone to talk to in these dark moments.

Crisis intervention is a process whereby someone in a position of authority intervenes in a situation to prevent it from deteriorating further. It is typically used in cases where there is an imminent threat of harm to oneself or others, and the goal is to stabilize the situation and prevent further harm. Crisis intervention team members are trained to assess the situation and take appropriate action to de-escalate it.  The goal of crisis intervention is to help people stabilize their emotions and thoughts, and to develop a plan to cope with their challenges. Crisis intervention typically involves teaching people coping and problem-solving skills, and providing support and encouragement.

Many who are in crisis can contemplate suicide.  Suicide intervention refers to the process of intervening in someone’s life who may be suicidal. It is typically done by family, friends, or mental health professionals in order to prevent the person from harming themselves. The goal of intervention is to get the individual to safety and to connect them with resources that can help them in their time of need.  If someone you know is suicidal, the best thing you can do is to encourage them to seek professional help. You can also offer to support them in any way you can, but it’s important not to try to handle everything on your own. Let them know that you’re there for them and that they are not alone.

The process of assessing suicide threat generally includes four key steps: (1) identifying risk factors for suicide, (2) evaluating the severity of those risk factors, (3) making a determination as to whether the individual is in immediate danger of harming themselves, and (4) developing a plan to keep the individual safe. There are many different factors that can contribute to someone being at risk for suicide, so it is important to consider all of them when conducting an assessment.  Making a promise to call before anything drastic is underdone is an important promise to make with someone with a mental issue.

If issues point towards a deeper pathology, it is important to find the person professional help.  If the plan is real, the objects available and the mood depressive, calling the proper authorities is key.

In conclusion, it is important to remember that mental health crises can happen to anyone. If you or someone you know is in crisis, there are many resources available to help. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, as well as prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones. You are not alone.  By increasing public awareness of the issue, providing support and resources for those affected, and destigmatizing mental illness, we can make progress in helping those in mental health crisis.

The Stations as a Source of Counseling for the Bereaved

Stations, Grief and Counseling

Many individuals suffer in life unfairly.  None more than Jesus Christ.  His passion and death serve as an example to Christians how to properly offer suffering to God and carry one’s own cross.  The Way of the Cross is not an easy choice in life.  It involves accepting the will of God and having utter faith in His ultimate plan.  As in the life of His own Son, the journey of the cross may not be a pleasant on earth.  Christians can meditate on the Stations of the Cross to better learn about suffering and the value of it.  It can be a tool to help others appreciate Christ’s suffering and sacrifice and also allow one to see Christ as a model of suffering to follow.   Christ tells all, to pick up one’s cross and to follow Him.  This may not be the news we wanted but it the is the news we need.

Christian Counselors, pastors, ministers, and priests all face suffering everyday when they speak to many who experience the worst in life, but by pointing to the cross, one can find an example of how to properly carry one’s cross in obedience even to death.  Christ as our suffering servant serves as an ultimate example but also shows us the love of God Himself to die on a cross for our sins.  This is why it is important to learn the Way of the Cross and to implement it into our spiritual life especially during Lent.

Many who walk the way of the cross, recount many parts of the four Gospels, while other parts stem from tradition or mere common sense.  From tradition, meditation and other accounts, many incidents that occurred during Christ’s trek to Calvary can be meditated and prayed upon.  It is essential in meditation to think back and suffer with Christ in thanksgiving and sorrow for His infinite gift of life.  One can learn so much by this meditation on the stations and become so much closer to Christ in the process.

History of the Stations

So what are the Stations of the Cross?  The Stations as a custom fall back to the 4th Century, when Christians could again in public walk the path of Christ in Jerusalem.  Upon the meditations, 14 points of emphasis emerged that highlighted Christ’s passion.  Again, some of these points of emphasis stemmed from Scripture, while others tradition.   Examples include the Christ’s multiple fallings and the pain of the women and Veronica.   These would be obvious occurrences and were related through other sources or as understood.  For instance, through the many meditations, devotion to the wounds of Christ on His Shoulder from the weight of the cross, or the bleeding of His knees from His many falls grew within the faithful.

The Stations hence were an early Christian devotion that emerged from the East and still to this day for pilgrims is a spiritual exercise.  It became a more consistent tradition in the West, when St Francis of Assisi brought the tradition back to his monastery from his trip to the Holy Land.  Through St Francis, the journey of Christ’s crucifixion became a more consistent tradition in the West communally and also individually.   To this day, the tradition is practiced in Western Churches during Lent with personal devotion any time of the year.

The Stations themselves consist of 14 stations.  Through the years different prayers have been compiled to accompany the faithful through the meditation of Christ’s sorrow or as it is also called the Way of Sorrow or Via Dolorosa.  The priest, deacon or chosen prayer leader walks to each station usually accompanied by a cross bearer.  Usually each station is accompanied with an opening repetitive prayer such as ” We adore you Christ and we bless you-because by Your Holy Cross, You have redeemed the world”  Within each station is a meditation and then a series of prayers with the congregation kneeling at certain points facing the particular station within the Church.   There have emerged different traditions with different focal points.  Some are the more traditional prayers while other ones focus on the thoughts of Mary during her Son’s horrible torture.

The stations teach Christians how to face suffering through imitation of Christ through His suffering and death on the cross

 

The Stations

We will now list the 14 Stations.

The First station is Christ before Pilot.

The Second station portrays Christ accepting His cross

The Third station recounts Christ’s first fall

The Fourth station accounts for Christ’s meeting with His Mother during His long trek to Calvary

The Fifth station refers to Simon helping Christ carry His cross

The Sixth station mentions the wiping of Christ’s face by Veronica

The Seventh station recounts Christ’s Second Fall

The Eighth station remembers the grief of the holy women

The Ninth station recounts Christ’s third fall

The Tenth station is the stripping of Christ garments

The Eleventh station reminds us of Christ’s horrible torment of being nailed to the cross

The Twelfth station is Christ’s crucifixion on the cross

The Thirteenth station is the removal of Christ from the cross

The Fourteenth station is the sealing of the tomb

Commentary

As one can see, the stations carry deep and meditative thoughts regarding Christ’s death.  Much of it stems from Scripture.  In this way, both Catholics and Protestants can find common ground in their Christian faith in celebrating and meditating upon these divine mysteries.  They feed the soul through scripture itself and also remind the soul of the great price Christ paid on the cross.  This is also why the stations are so beautiful as an aide to the suffering.

The stations show Christ as the ultimate example of accepting difficulty and hardship and showing obedience to God’s will.  They show the love of many towards Christ during His death and also show the pain of Mary, a mother, over the cruel death of her Son.  The lessons from the Stations and application to them to difficulty in life are without equal.

The stations bring us to the Holy Land, they take us to the heart of Mary, and help us appreciate the beauty and love of God through His death on the cross.  The stations allow us the honor to walk with Christ and to accompany Him and offer Him worship.  It teaches us the humility of Christ, the obedience of Christ, and the love of Christ.  It shows us the power of suffering in a fallen world and how Christ could turn death into life.

From a practical stand point, it helps us face our own crosses and Calvary and shows us to turn to Christ for help in offering our own cross in this life.

How many can learn from Christ through the Stations?

Wrongly accused?

Carrying unfair burden

Losing a son

Accepting one’s cross

Forgiving one’s enemies

Dying for a friend

Displaying humility and dignity in evil situations

In counseling, the bereaved and persecuted can find solace in the Stations while they mediate upon the sorrows of Christ.  Christ as the ultimate example, not only died for our sins, but also taught us through His behavior during His passion how to face evil in this world.

We learn through the Stations, the obedience, humility and love Christ possessed in His heart.

 

Conclusion

It is very recommended that all Christians participate in the celebration of the stations both communally and individually.  It is an act of adoration and thanksgiving to Christ but also a beautiful way to learn and understand the true meaning of Christian suffering.

Whether Catholic, Protestant or non -denominational, the worship of Christ through the meditation upon the Stations is a universal Christian tradition for all to share as Christians in one Baptism.

Abraham as an Example of Obedience and Trust

One of the most obedient servants of God was Abraham.  As the father of nations, Abraham was held to a high standard, but God tested him.  God tested his utter obedience to the very thought of sacrificing his own son, Isaac.   While, in modern times, the whole idea of giving one’s son as a sacrifice may seem odd, this showed Abraham’s utter devotion to God.  His obedience was complete.  He did not expect answers or demand an explanation, but he obeyed God.

Of course, the image of Abraham sacrificing his son, was in fact, a pre-cursor to what God the Father Himself would offer, His only Son.  God never expects more than one can give but does He does expect trust and obedience.  From that trust and obedience, Abraham was rewarded but so was humanity.  It was God who would offer His Son as the most perfect sacrifice.  In this way, Isaac becomes a pre-figurement of Jesus Christ while Abraham becomes an example of a perfectly obedient servant.

The article, “5 Lessons We Can Learn from Abraham” by Matthew Poyer looks at the obedience of Abraham.  In his article, he points out how Abraham is obedient even till this most horrible and terrifying command.   Abraham understands the depth of sacrifice, obeys and shows important qualities in fulfilling God’s will and command. Poyer illustrates 5 lessons we can learn from Abraham in his unwavering faith and obedience to God.  The article states,

“Is there anything in your life that is a little too precious? Could you be making an idol out of something that God merely intended to be a gift in your life? Only you really know. But understand, God is always at work, molding and shaping us for His purposes. This sometimes comes by sacrifice…by testing and by trusting. When that happens, let Abraham’s example be a blueprint for your obedience. And let the Lord’s faithful sovereignty encourage you unto completion.”

Abraham is an example of trust and obedience to God even until the ultimate sacrifice

 

Commentary

Abraham is a figure in the Hebrew Bible who is considered by many to be the first patriarch of the Jewish people. He is also an important figure in Christianity and Islam, and is revered as a prophet in both faiths. Abraham is said to have been born in Ur of the Chaldees, and to have lived most of his life in the land of Canaan. He is known for his faithfulness to God, and for his willingness to sacrifice everything for His sake.

Abraham’s Obedience and Trust in God

The obedience of Abraham is a fascinating topic of discussion among religious scholars. On the one hand, some argue that Abraham’s obedience to God was a key factor in his being considered a righteous man. On the other hand, others argue that Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his own son Isaac demonstrates a level of fanaticism that should not be condoned. Regardless of which interpretation one subscribes to, there is no doubt that the obedience of Abraham is a significant event in religious history.  The trust of Abraham is a common theme in religious texts. It refers to Abraham’s willingness to put his faith in God, even when it goes against his own logic or desires. This act of trust is often seen as the cornerstone of Abraham’s relationship with God, and is used as an example for believers to follow.

Abraham’s Sacrifice

The story of Abraham’s sacrifice is found in the book of Genesis, chapters 22-24. In this story, Abraham is asked by God to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Abraham does as he is asked, but at the last moment, an angel of God intervenes and tells Abraham to stop. The angel tells Abraham that because he was willing to sacrifice his son, Abraham’s obedience has been counted as righteousness.  The Old Testament figure of Isaac can be seen as a prefiguration of Christ. In Genesis, Isaac is born to Abraham and Sarah in their old age, just as Christ is born to Mary and Joseph in their old age. Isaac is also nearly sacrificed by his father Abraham, just as Christ is sacrificed on the cross. These parallels show that Isaac is a figure who points to the coming of Christ.

Christians learn from Abraham because he was the father of faith. He is someone who believed in God and followed His commands even when it was difficult. Abraham is an example of what it means to have faith and to be obedient. Christians can learn from his story how to have a strong relationship with God and how to live out their faith.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Abraham’s obedience and trust led him to be greatly blessed by God. His faithfulness was rewarded with material possessions, a great reputation, and a legacy that continues to this day. Abraham’s example shows us that if we are obedient and trust in God, we will be richly blessed as well.  God never expected a human sacrifice, but wanted to test Abraham.  Instead, we learn that God always wishes give more than He ever takes.  Instead of Isaac being sacrificed, God gave humanity His only Son, Jesu Christ.  Jesus would be the perfect sacrifice.

Christian Counselors can utilize the story of Abraham to better teach others about obedience and faith in God’s design and not to question God but to simply obey, trust and believe.  God has what is best for one.

ADHD Symptoms and Signs

Individuals with ADHD are not lazy or unintelligent but are individuals who suffer from a disorder that prevents them from focusing on tasks.   They become easily distracted and can lose focus on what needs done.  Due to this, especially in school, students are sometimes singled out as not studious or intelligent. ADHD not only affects children, but also adults.  In this regard, ADHD can disrupt work and career, plus relationships with others.  It is important to diagnose ADHD whether as a child or adult to receive the proper professional ADHD Consulting and Counseling.

The article, “5 Overlooked Signs of ADHD – the Inattentive Type” by Sharon Saline looks closer at signs and symptoms of ADHD.  She lists a variety of common signs including forgetfulness, distraction, incomplete tasks, following instructions and disorganization.  She also counters with various strategies to help the person overcome these symptoms.  She states,

“People with inattentive type ADHD (formerly called ADD) struggle with managing time, losing or misplacing things, and attending to details (resulting in careless mistakes), among other symptoms. Over time, these individuals may experience a higher level of mental fatigue and forgetfulness, and lower sustained energy throughout a task than do their non-ADHD peers.”

Commentary

ADHD is a mental disorder that is characterized by problems with focus, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. People with ADHD may have difficulty paying attention, sitting still, or controlling their impulses. ADHD can cause problems in school, work, and social relationships.

Symptoms of ADHD

The symptoms of ADHD can be divided into two categories: inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity. Inattention refers to difficulties with sustaining attention, concentrating, and being organized. Individuals with ADHD may also have difficulty with following instructions, completing tasks, and keeping track of belongings. Hyperactivity-impulsivity refers to difficulties with remaining still or feeling restless and fidgety. Individuals with ADHD may also have difficulty with talking excessively, interrupting others, and acting without thinking.  Symptoms of ADHD typically begin before the age of seven. The exact cause of ADHD is unknown, but it is believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Treatment for ADHD typically includes medication, counseling, and behavioral therapy.

ADHD Diagnosis

The diagnosis of ADHD can be made by a mental health professional, such as a psychiatrist, psychologist, or clinical social worker, who conducts a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. The assessment may include a physical examination, interviews with the child and parent or other caregivers, and review of school records. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), published by the American Psychiatric Association, is used to diagnose ADHD.

In some cases, diagnosis may not be to adulthood which can leave the individual with a life long story of confusion.  Due sometimes to over diagnosis, or parental hesitation, this can occur but it is important if two or more symptoms consistently manifest for parents to have their children tested.  In the long run, it will answer many questions, help the child in every aspect of life and correct many disciplinary issues.

Coping with ADHD

Treatment typically involves a combination of medication and behavioral therapy. Medication is an important part of treatment for ADHD. Stimulant medications, such as methylphenidate and amphetamine, are the most commonly prescribed medications for ADHD.  Adderal is a medication that is commonly used to treat ADHD. It works by increasing levels of the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain, which helps to improve focus and concentration.

There are a number of ways to cope with ADHD. One way is to take medication prescribed by a physician. Another way is to develop coping mechanisms, such as using a planner or schedule, setting timers, and breaking tasks into smaller chunks. It is also important to establish routines and stick to them as much as possible.  Additionally, it is important to find healthy outlets for excess energy and impulsivity, such as exercise or creative pursuits. Finally, it is helpful to talk to others who understand what it is like to live with ADHD.

In conclusion, it is important to be aware of the symptoms of ADHD in order to get the proper diagnosis and treatment. Early diagnosis and intervention is key to managing the symptoms and preventing them from adversely affecting one’s life. Exercise and Brain Functioning

Exercise obviously has so many benefits in life.  It is of no wonder then that it also benefits the brain itself.  The functioning and blood flow to the brain all benefits from good exercise.  It can strengthen white matter, neural transmission and brain functioning in regards to memory.  Physicians, life coaches, and personal trainers can all help individuals discover the best work out for their age and physical and mental needs.

The article, “How Exercise Protects Your Brain’s Health” from Cleveland Clinic’s Healthessentials takes a closer look at how brain functioning and memory are directly affected by exercise.  The article looks at the importance of exercise based off a study that looked at brain function combined with exercise.  It also looks at the effects of exercise on dementia.  Finally, the article related what type of workout is best for overall brain health.  The article states,

“Aerobic exercises are the ones to focus on here. That’s activities like running, jogging, biking, swimming or even dancing. Exercises that get your heart rate up are the best for your brain.  For most people, the goal of physical exercise should be to engage in vigorous physical activity three days per week for 15 minutes. Or, if high-intensity workouts don’t work for you because of health concerns or other reasons, you can aim for 30 minutes of moderate activity five days per week to get similar brain-boosting effects, Dr. Ross notes.”

There is a growing body of evidence that suggests that brain function and exercise are linked. For example, one study found that people who engaged in moderate to vigorous physical activity had better cognitive function than those who didn’t. Additionally, another study found that regular aerobic exercise was associated with increased grey matter volume in the brain. This includes both cognitive and motor function. While the mechanisms underlying this link are not fully understood, it is thought that exercise may improve brain health by promoting neurogenesis, reducing inflammation, and increasing levels of neurotrophic factors. These findings suggest that there is a link between brain function and exercise. Exercise also helps to reduce stress and anxiety, which can have a negative impact on brain function. Furthermore, exercise stimulates the release of chemicals that protect the brain from damage and improve nerve cell function. However, more research is needed to determine the exact nature of this link.

Exercise and Memory

In regards to memory, exercise is very important

There is evidence to suggest that memory and exercise are interconnected. One study found that participants who engaged in regular physical activity had better working memory than those who did not. Furthermore, another study found that older adults who participated in a moderate-intensity aerobic exercise program showed improved cognitive function, including improved memory, compared to those who did not exercise.

Exercise has been shown to be beneficial for overall brain health, including reducing the risk of dementia. Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability due to disease or injury. Exercise can help to improve brain function by increasing blood flow and oxygen to the brain, as well as by stimulating the growth of new nerve cells.

In addition to dementia, there is growing evidence that physical activity may be protective against cognitive decline, including Alzheimer’s disease. One theory is that exercise promotes brain health by increasing levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). BDNF is a protein that supports the growth, development, and maintenance of neurons. Exercise may also help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s by reducing inflammation and improving blood flow to the brain.

Types of Exercise for Better Brain Health

Most suggest aerobic exercise of 15 minute intervals at least 3 times a week.  Others suggest as well at least 7500 steps a day.  Movement and keeping the blood circulating are key, so any exercises associated with this can help.  Swimming, walking, biking, or running are all excellent ways to help brain function.

Life Coaching

Life coaching is a process whereby an individual is supported in achieving specific personal and professional goals. The coach acts as a sounding board and provides guidance and feedback, but the client is ultimately responsible for taking action and making decisions.
