  • Understanding Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a humanistic, evidence-based approach to psychotherapy that emphasizes the central role of emotions in human experience.

Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson in the 1980s, EFT is grounded in Attachment Theory and Emotion Regulation Theory. EFT helps clients identify and transform negative processing and interaction patterns that create distress. It’s effective in treating individuals, couples, and families, addressing a wide range of issues from marital conflicts to emotional trauma.

Understanding EFT Tapping

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) tapping, often referred to as psychological acupressure, is a method that combines elements of cognitive behavioral therapy and acupressure to address emotional distress and physical pain. Unlike traditional acupuncture, which uses needles, EFT employs fingertip tapping to apply pressure on specific meridian points of the body.

The technique is based on the premise that emotional issues are caused by disruptions in the body’s energy system. By tapping on these meridian points—areas where energy is believed to flow—individuals can restore balance and alleviate stress, anxiety, and other negative emotions. EFT tapping is designed to target the 12 specific meridian points on the body that correspond to different emotional states. Each point is tapped while the individual focuses on a particular negative memory or issue, effectively addressing the emotional impact of the problem.

This method has been adopted widely due to its simplicity and the fact that it can be practiced independently or with the guidance of a practitioner. During a session, individuals typically begin by identifying the issue and rating their level of distress. They then articulate a ‘set-up’ statement that acknowledges the problem while affirming self-acceptance. As they tap each meridian point, they repeat a reminder phrase to maintain focus on their issue.

EFT has gained popularity not only for its effectiveness in treating a range of issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD but also because it provides a tool for individuals to actively contribute to their own healing process. The tapping technique is easy to learn and can be used as a self-help tool, making it accessible to a wide audience.
By integrating EFT with other therapeutic modalities, practitioners can offer a holistic approach to emotional wellness, emphasizing the importance of both mind and body in achieving emotional balance and health.

Mind-Body Connection

The concept of the mind-body connection underscores the profound interplay between our physical and emotional well-being. This relationship is evident as the body often signals its need for attention through various symptoms, such as shifts in energy or emotional changes. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) tapping, a method that merges cognitive behavioral therapy with acupressure, leverages this connection by targeting the body’s energy meridians. These meridians, akin to highways within the body, can be stimulated through tapping to foster both emotional and physical healing.Chakra Clearing Tapping Technique, Triple Burner Meridian, EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique.

Research supports the effectiveness of EFT in addressing not only emotional distress but also physical symptoms. By tapping on specific meridian points while focusing on emotional issues, individuals can release energetic blocks, leading to improved well-being across physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions. This holistic approach is further validated by neuroimaging studies, which show that EFT can modulate brain activity in areas related to emotion regulation and stress response, thereby enhancing emotional resilience and reducing stress.

The mind-body connection is not just a theory but a practical reality that can be harnessed for healing. For instance, chronic stress often manifests physically as ailments like back pain or digestive issues, which are in fact expressions of emotional turmoil. Addressing these emotional underpinnings through techniques like EFT can lead to significant improvements in both mental and physical health.

In summary, understanding and utilizing the mind-body connection through practices such as EFT can lead to a more integrated approach to health, where emotional and physical healing occur in tandem. This holistic perspective not only enhances individual well-being but also may shift how we approach health care, emphasizing the interconnectedness of our emotional and physical states.

Handling Trauma

Trauma profoundly impacts cognitive schemas, often undermining beliefs about oneself and altering perceptions of reality, which can disrupt daily life significantly without an individual’s awareness. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) have been recognized for their extensive effectiveness in addressing trauma. They provide immediate relief and are gentle tools for uncovering and systematically working through the complex layers associated with trauma until their emotional charge dissipates.
For therapists, self-examination is crucial before engaging with clients’ trauma. It’s essential to resolve any personal unresolved trauma to avoid being triggered by clients’ experiences. This distinction between empathizing and colluding with clients is vital for effective therapy, ensuring therapists remain clear channels to serve their clients optimally.

Trauma is categorized into four broad types: prolonged past traumatic experiences, ongoing trauma, one-off trauma, and perceived trauma. Each category requires tailored approaches during EFT sessions. For some clients, immediately discussing their traumatic experiences is necessary, which can cause significant disruptions in their energy systems requiring continuous tapping. Others might present physical symptoms like insomnia or migraines, with no apparent connection to traumatic events. Here, therapists’ detective skills are crucial to gently uncover any related traumatic events.

For clients detached from their trauma, exhibiting symptoms like depression or anxiety, therapists must employ strategies to elicit specific emotional contributors underlying these symptoms. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), whether from a single event or prolonged exposure, stores traumatic memories as if they are current, leading to flashbacks, hyper-vigilance, and other severe symptoms. These individuals might withdraw from life, viewing the world as unsafe, which necessitates a careful, gradual therapeutic approach.

EFT offers various techniques for handling trauma, including the Tearless Trauma Technique, Movie Technique, Telling the Story, Tsunami Technique, and Imagination Technique. These methods help clients dissociate from intense emotions safely and gradually, making EFT a versatile tool for trauma therapy. The effectiveness of EFT in trauma therapy is further supported by its ability to produce results in fewer sessions compared to traditional methods, with minimal risk of re-traumatization, and outcomes confirmed by biological, neurological, and genetic measures. Additionally, EFT equips individuals with effective coping strategies for future challenges, enhancing long-term emotional resilience.

Benefits for Non-Verbal Individuals

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) tapping provides unique advantages for non-verbal individuals, particularly those within the autism spectrum who may experience challenges in traditional therapeutic settings due to difficulties in verbal communication. The tactile nature of EFT tapping offers a sensory-based method to aid in self-regulation and emotional management.

Children with Autism often require sensory stimulation to manage emotions and self-regulate. Tapping serves as a safe alternative to self-soothing behaviors that might be disruptive or unsafe. This method involves tapping on specific meridian points on the body, which can mimic the soothing effects of stimming behaviors, providing a repetitive, calming sensation.Pretty teenage girl practicing EFT or emotional freedom technique - tapping on the chin point with her hand

The application of EFT tapping with non-verbal individuals must consider their cognitive abilities and the extent of their communication challenges. While there is a lack of specific research focused solely on non-verbal groups, studies on the efficacy of tapping for those with anxiety disorders suggest that EFT can be beneficial for those needing relief from emotional distress. The technique’s simplicity allows for easy adaptation to various needs, including those who are non-verbal, making it a versatile tool in emotional therapy.

Furthermore, the movements involved in tapping not only offer a physical outlet for emotional expression but also help in reducing stress and anxiety, common issues faced by individuals on the autism spectrum. It is crucial, however, to tailor the approach to each individual’s cognitive development and ability to engage with the technique, ensuring they can effectively learn and apply the tapping methods to manage their emotions independently.

In cases where individuals are diagnosed with more profound verbal and non-verbal deficits, such as ASD Level 3, the effectiveness of EFT may vary, and adaptations to the standard protocol may be necessary. This highlights the importance of a personalized approach when implementing EFT tapping as a therapeutic tool for non-verbal individuals, ensuring that each person’s unique needs and capabilities are adequately addressed.

Importance of Proper Training

Benefits of EFT training is essential for mental health professionals who aim to enhance their therapeutic skills and effectively address their clients’ emotional needs. The training process is structured in stages, beginning with an introductory externship followed by core skills training, which is crucial for refining practitioners’ abilities to understand and improve clients’ emotional literacy and overall well-being.

EFT training typically starts with a four-day foundation course known as an externship, which introduces participants to the basic concepts and applications of EFT. This is followed by core skills training, delivered in modules over several days or hours, focusing on deepening practitioners’ understanding of specific client groups. These training stages are designed to equip therapists with the necessary tools to clarify and address the emotional experiences of individuals, couples, and families effectively.
Moreover, becoming a certified EFT practitioner requires commitment to a person-centered or humanistic approach and an interest in expanding one’s professional toolkit. The training not only includes in-person workshops but also offers online modules to accommodate different learning preferences and geographical locations.
Advanced training modules are available for those who wish to specialize further, emphasizing the application of EFT in more complex cases or with specific demographics. These advanced courses are integral for practitioners who seek to enhance their expertise and adapt their therapeutic approaches to meet diverse client needs effectively.

The importance of ongoing professional development in EFT is underscored by the necessity to stay attuned to one’s own emotional states and vulnerabilities during therapy sessions. This self-awareness is crucial for maintaining an empathetic, yet professional, therapeutic relationship and for fostering an environment where clients feel safe to explore their emotions.

In summary, proper training in EFT not only enhances the therapeutic skills of mental health professionals but also supports their personal growth and the development of a nuanced understanding of human emotions. This comprehensive approach ensures that practitioners can provide effective and empathetic care, ultimately leading to better client outcomes.

Moving Beyond Medical Models

In the evolving landscape of mental health therapies, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) represents a significant departure from traditional medical models, emphasizing holistic and integrative approaches. Reviews and meta-analyses validate EFT as an evidence-based practice, with its efficacy for conditions such as anxiety, depression, phobias, and PTSD well-established. This recognition challenges the conventional reliance on pharmaceutical interventions by highlighting a noninvasive, nondrug therapy that is free of negative side effects and capable of inducing profound physiological and psychological changes.

Furthermore, the application of EFT in clinical settings has demonstrated its versatility and effectiveness across a wide range of psychological and physical symptoms, making it a valuable addition to existing treatment protocols. Despite some criticisms labeling EFT as pseudoscience, the technique continues to gain traction within the therapeutic community, particularly among those seeking non-traditional methods that align with a holistic view of health.

Critiques of EFT often focus on the lack of rigorous scientific research supporting its mechanisms. However, proponents argue that the simplicity of the technique, coupled with its ability to be self-administered, makes it an accessible option for those disillusioned with conventional treatments. This perspective is bolstered by the growing interest in energy psychology, which integrates established clinical methods with somatic interventions like tapping acupoints, showing strong effect sizes in treating PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

As mental health paradigms shift towards more integrative and person-centered approaches, EFT stands out as a modality that not only addresses the symptoms but also empowers individuals to actively participate in their healing process. This shift is indicative of a broader movement in healthcare, which increasingly values treatments that are not only effective but also enhance the overall quality of life by respecting the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit.

EFT Tapping Sessions Explained

An EFT training diagram showing points on the body for tapping.EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) tapping sessions are structured to help individuals address specific emotional issues by tapping on designated meridian points on the body. At the start of an EFT session, the practitioner asks the individual to think about the issue they wish to address and to rate the intensity of their emotions on a scale from 0 to 10, known as the Subjective Units of Distress (SUD) score.  This initial assessment helps both the practitioner and the client gauge the emotional impact of the issue and track progress throughout the session.

During the session, both the practitioner and the client tap on specific points on the face and torso, which are the endpoints of the body’s energy meridians. This process is aimed at alleviating emotional distress associated with negative memories or events without the need to dwell on the painful details. Clients are encouraged to focus on a negative event or memory while tapping, which helps to discharge the emotional charge linked to those thoughts, making the memory less triggering.

As the session progresses, the practitioner may guide the client to uncover and address various aspects of a specific event or unresolved emotion. This might include sensory details like sights, smells, or sounds associated with the memory. Each aspect is addressed thoroughly until the emotional charge is significantly reduced or eliminated.

Additionally, the practitioner might explore core beliefs or statements related to the client’s goals, such as losing weight or improving financial stability. The client is asked to rate how true these statements feel on a scale from 0 to 10, a measure known as the Validity of Cognition (VOC) score. If there is incongruence in these beliefs, tapping techniques are used to realign the subconscious beliefs with the client’s goals, enhancing their ability to achieve desired outcomes.

EFT sessions can be conducted in various formats, including in-person, over the phone, or via video conferencing platforms like Zoom or Skype, providing flexibility and access to clients regardless of geographical location. This adaptability makes EFT a practical tool for emotional management and self-regulation, accessible to a broad audience seeking relief from psychological distress.

EFT, a versatile energy psychology technique, can be seamlessly combined with various therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, Reiki, and aromatherapy to address a wide range of emotional and physical issues.

For individuals who may not initially be ready for EFT due to their emotional state, starting with gentler therapies like Reiki or Flower Essences can prepare them for EFT. This approach ensures that each therapy complements the other, addressing different aspects of the body’s subtle energies. For instance, while EFT focuses on meridian points to balance the body’s energy system, Flower Essences target specific emotional states, enhancing the emotional healing process initiated by EFT tapping.

Moreover, integrating EFT with therapies like music, light, and color therapies can improve the overall therapeutic environment, making it more conducive to healing. This is particularly beneficial in cases where the sensory experience of tapping might be overwhelming for sensitive individuals. In such scenarios, the combination of EFT with other non-invasive therapies can soothe the nervous system and facilitate a more effective healing process.

Practitioners have found that using EFT in conjunction with established psychological therapies like psychotherapy and cognitive behavior therapy not only accelerates progress but also helps clients achieve a deeper emotional and psychological understanding. This integration allows therapists to use a hybrid knowledge base to inform their clinical choices, offering a comprehensive treatment approach that considers both emotional and cognitive aspects of wellness.

In conclusion, the integration of EFT with other modalities offers a multifaceted approach to therapy that addresses various dimensions of a person’s well-being. This method not only enhances the effectiveness of EFT but also empowers individuals with a variety of tools to manage their emotional health, promoting a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Common Triggers and Symptoms

Phobias can manifest through various symptoms, which may include rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, sweating, and trembling. Common triggers include heights, spiders, and flying, which can cause panic attacks and a strong desire to avoid the feared stimulus.

Biological and Psychological Foundations

Phobias often develop due to a combination of genetic, environmental, and psychological factors. Understanding these foundations is crucial for effective treatment. The biological aspect involves the brain’s response to fear, while the psychological aspect explores how past experiences shape fear responses.

The Principles of Emotional Freedom Techniques

Overview of EFT

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a holistic healing method that integrates elements of traditional Chinese medicine and modern psychological acupressure techniques. EFT is designed to address emotional and psychological issues by tapping on specific acupressure points while focusing on particular emotional concerns.

Key Components of the Technique

EFT operates on several core principles that enhance its effectiveness. These include the identification and direct addressing of negative emotions, the physical interaction through tapping, and the cognitive reassessment of distressing situations.

The Role of Acupressure Points

The acupressure points used in EFT are critical to its success. These points, located on various parts of the body, are believed to be linked to the body’s energy flow, known as meridians. Tapping on these points while concentrating on emotional issues helps to release blockages in the energy system, facilitating healing and emotional freedom.

EFT in Action: Mechanisms and Effects

How EFT Targets Fear Responses

EFT helps individuals find calm when facing fears.

EFT operates on the premise that emotional distress is caused by disruptions in the body’s energy system. By tapping on specific acupressure points, EFT aims to restore the balance of energy and alleviate emotional distress. The act of tapping on these points is believed to send calming signals to the brain, reducing the intensity of negative emotions. This targeted approach directly addresses the fear responses associated with phobias, making it a potent tool for emotional regulation and fear management.

Neural and Emotional Rewiring

During an EFT session, individuals focus on their specific issue or problem while tapping on the designated points. This process helps to bring the issue to the surface and allows for the release of negative emotions, beliefs, and memories associated with it. By addressing these underlying emotional components, EFT aims to bring about emotional healing and create positive changes. The technique’s ability to rewire emotional responses is central to its effectiveness in treating phobias.

Case Studies: EFT Success Stories

EFT has been applied successfully in numerous cases, helping individuals overcome their phobias and regain control over their emotional responses. These success stories highlight the practical benefits and transformative potential of EFT in real-world scenarios. The following are some key outcomes observed in various case studies:

Practical Application of EFT for Phobias

Step-by-Step EFT Process for Phobias

To effectively utilize EFT for phobias, a structured approach is essential. Begin by identifying the specific phobia and the associated emotional response. The process typically involves several steps:

  1. Acknowledgment of the emotional issue
  2. Identification of the acupressure points to be targeted
  3. Application of gentle tapping on these points while focusing on the phobia
  4. Vocal affirmation of acceptance despite the phobia
  5. Reassessment of emotional intensity and repetition if necessary

This methodical approach helps in desensitizing the fear response, enabling individuals to face previously daunting situations with increased confidence.

Role of a Trained EFT Therapist

Working with a trained EFT therapist is crucial for the successful application of EFT in treating phobias. A skilled therapist can provide necessary guidance, support, and customization of the technique to suit individual needs. They ensure that the process is conducted safely and effectively, maximizing the potential for improvement.

It’s important to note that while EFT can be a powerful tool in addressing phobias, it is recommended to work with a trained EFT therapist.

Creating a Supportive Environment

Creating a supportive environment is integral to the success of EFT for phobias. This involves establishing a safe space where individuals feel comfortable expressing their fears without judgment. Support from family, friends, and therapists plays a significant role in reinforcing the positive effects of EFT and encouraging continued progress.

Combining EFT with Other Therapeutic Approaches

Integrative Therapy Strategies

EFT can be effectively combined with other therapeutic approaches to create a holistic treatment plan. Depending on the needs of the individual, therapists may integrate EFT with techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, or mindfulness-based interventions. This integration allows for a more comprehensive approach to treating phobias, enhancing the effectiveness of each method.

Enhancing EFT with Cognitive Behavioral Techniques

EFT can be a valuable complement to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). By integrating these two powerful techniques, therapists can address both the emotional and cognitive aspects of phobias. This dual approach not only helps in reducing the symptoms but also in altering the underlying thought patterns that contribute to the phobia.

Case Examples of Combined Therapies

Integrating EFT into therapy allows individuals to harness the benefits of this powerful technique alongside other therapeutic approaches. By working with experienced EFT therapists, individuals can embark on a transformative journey towards overcoming their phobias and achieving emotional freedom. The combination of EFT with other therapeutic modalities empowers individuals to address their phobias from multiple angles, leading to lasting change and personal growth.

Research and Evidence on EFT for Phobias

Understanding Emotional Freedom Technique

The History of EFT

The history of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is rooted in ancient Chinese medicine, specifically the concept of meridians or energy pathways. These principles, central to acupuncture and acupressure, form the basis of EFT’s approach to healing. The modern version of EFT evolved from Thought Field Therapy (TFT), developed in the 1980s by American psychologist Dr. Roger Callahan. Callahan’s pioneering work in tapping on specific meridian points to relieve emotional distress laid the groundwork for what would become EFT. His significant breakthrough came with a patient named Mary, whose severe water phobia was remarkably overcome through his tapping technique. Today, EFT is a widely practiced technique by therapists, healthcare professionals, and individuals. It has been embraced in traditional and digital platforms for its simplicity, versatility, and non-invasive nature. Learning the Tapping Points There are

The Science Behind EFT

The Science Behind EFT Tapping

The principle behind EFT tapping is that your emotions and physical sensations are interconnected. Negative emotions can lead to physical distress and vice versa. Tapping on these meridian points while focusing on an emotional issue is believed to release energy blockages, reducing stress and unhelpful emotions.

Scientific studies shed light on the effectiveness of EFT Tapping, particularly in the areas of anxiety, depression, and stress reduction. A study published in the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease highlighted EFT’s effectiveness in treating anxiety disorders. Participants showed a decrease in anxiety scores compared to a control group.

It’s important to note that EFT tapping has shown promising results in addressing emotional and psychological challenges. The interconnectedness of emotions and physical well-being is a key aspect of EFT, making it a valuable tool for achieving mental wellness.

Meridian Points and Emotional Healing

In the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), understanding the significance of meridian points is crucial for emotional healing. By applying gentle pressure on specific meridian points, it is believed that energy flow and healing can be improved, and unhelpful emotions can be managed. The following table presents a summary of the key meridian points and their associated emotional benefits:

Meridian Point Emotional Benefit
Top of the Head Achieving overall balance and calmness
Eyebrow Relieving worry and fear, reducing headaches
Side of the Eye Managing stress and promoting emotional healing
Under the Nose Enhancing emotional control and stability
Chin Easing shame, embarrassment, and emotional release
Collarbone Relieving deep-seated emotional issues, fear, anxiety
Under the Arm Processing guilt, worry, and self-esteem-related emotions

Benefits of EFT

Non evasive methods of relieving anxiety and trauma help individuals supplement counseling and find peace.  The Emotional Freedom Technique or tapping is a way individuals under guidance or even alone after training, can alleviate anxiety, trauma and even phobias.  Similar in concept to acupuncture points within the body, EFT looks to unlock certain meridian points throughout the body to process negative energy associated with anxiety or trauma.  Through words, thoughts and a calculated procedure of tapping points, one is able to move energy from within the body to an exit point to help achieve a state of calmness.  With each session, one is able to judge the level of anxiety dropping.

EFT has multiple benefits in helping individuals with trauma. Please also review AIHCP’s EFT Practitioner Program

The article, “The Benefits of EFT Tapping and How to Do It, According to Therapists” by Sara Youngblood Gregory reviews the procedure and benefits of tapping.  She states,

“EFT — sometimes referred to as “tapping” or “psychological acupressure” — is a somatic treatment meant to help soothe stress and strengthen the mind-body connection, Stretcher says.  Somatic therapies like EFT work by helping to release trauma and stress stored in the body, Stretcher adds, and often use a combination of body movement and thought practice to help people move through tension.  Like the traditional Chinese medicine practice of acupuncture, EFT uses meridian points — or energy centers — on the face and upper body to calm both your central nervous system and your mind. But instead of using acupuncture needles to access these meridians, EFT uses fingers to “tap” and apply pressure to the body.”

Commentary

Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as EFT or tapping, is a powerful healing modality that has gained popularity in recent years. It combines elements of traditional Chinese medicine, psychology, and neurology to address emotional and physical issues. EFT works by tapping on specific meridian points on the body while focusing on the negative emotions or traumas that are causing distress. This gentle tapping technique helps to release energy blockages and restore balance to the body’s energy system.

Understanding the Power of Emotions and Their Impact on Our Well-being

Emotions play a significant role in our overall well-being. They can affect our mental, emotional, and physical health. When we suppress or ignore our emotions, they can manifest as physical symptoms or create imbalances in our energy system. Emotional Freedom Technique recognizes the importance of acknowledging and addressing our emotions to achieve healing and transformation.

By tapping on specific meridian points, EFT helps to release negative emotions, such as fear, anger, sadness, or guilt, that may be stored in our body. This process allows us to process and release the emotional charge associated with past traumas or negative experiences. As a result, we can experience a profound sense of relief, inner peace, and emotional freedom.

The Principles Behind Emotional Freedom Technique

EFT is based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine and the concept of energy meridians. According to this ancient healing system, our body has a network of energy pathways through which vital life force energy, known as Qi, flows. When this flow of energy is disrupted or blocked, it can lead to physical or emotional imbalances.

Trained EFT Practitioners can help teach clients how to properly and successfully employ EFT in their day to day therapies

The tapping technique used in EFT helps to restore the flow of energy by stimulating specific meridian points. By tapping on these points while focusing on the negative emotions or traumas, we can release the energy blockages and restore balance to our energy system. This process allows the body’s natural healing mechanisms to kick in and promote overall health and well-being.

How to Perform Emotional Freedom Technique

Performing EFT is a simple and empowering process that anyone can learn. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you get started:

  1. Identify the issue: Begin by identifying the negative emotion, traumatic event, or physical symptom that you want to address. It could be anything from anxiety and stress to chronic pain or past traumas.
  2. Rate the intensity: On a scale of 0 to 10, rate the intensity of the emotion or symptom you are experiencing. This will help you track your progress throughout the tapping process.
  3. Setup statement: Create a setup statement that acknowledges the problem and affirms self-acceptance. For example, “Even though I feel anxious, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
  4. Tapping sequence: Tap on each of the following meridian points about 5-7 times while repeating a reminder phrase that focuses on the negative emotion or symptom.
    • Top of the head
    • Eyebrow
    • Side of the eye
    • Under the eye
    • Under the nose
    • Chin
    • Collarbone
    • Under the arm
    • Inside of the wrist
  5. Check the intensity: After completing a round of tapping, reassess the intensity of the emotion or symptom. If it has decreased, continue tapping until the intensity reaches 0, or you feel a sense of relief.
  6. Repeat as needed: You can repeat the tapping process multiple times to address different aspects or layers of the issue you are working on.

By following these steps and practicing EFT regularly, you can harness the power of this technique to bring about profound healing and transformation in your life.

The practice of Emotional Freedom Technique offers a wide range of benefits for our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Here are some of the key benefits you can expect to experience:

The Emotional Freedom Technique ( EFT ) For Better Sleep!

By – James M. Katz, BA

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as tapping therapy, is a powerful mind-body technique that can help you achieve emotional balance and alleviate stress. It involves gentle tapping on specific acupressure points on the body while focusing on specific thoughts or emotions. By doing so, EFT aims to release energy blockages and restore harmony to the body’s energy system.

Sleep is essential for our overall well-being, and emotional states can greatly impact the quality of our sleep. Stress, anxiety, and unresolved emotions can keep our minds racing and prevent us from achieving a restful night’s sleep. EFT addresses the underlying emotional issues that may be contributing to sleep disturbances, allowing us to release emotional burdens and find inner peace.

Research has shown that emotions play a significant role in sleep regulation. Negative emotions, such as fear, anger, and sadness, can activate the body’s stress response, making it difficult to relax and fall asleep. Emotional Freedom Technique can help to reduce the intensity of these emotions, allowing us to unwind and drift into a state of deep relaxation.

As seen in the article below, Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT can help you relax, reduce stress and clear your mind. This is accomplished through tapping techniques done on meridian lines across your body.

TikTok is great for lots of things: delicious recipe inspiration, style advice, cat videos and, of course, fitness challenges. From dance routines to viral workout videos, wellness trends regularly circulate TikTok. And while most are just harmless crazes (clearly meant to be taken with a pinch of salt), others – like brain tapping for sleep – genuinely make us stop and wonder whether they could improve our quality of life.

Emotional Freedom Technique EFT used to help a man sleep betterCommentary:

The science behind EFT and its benefits for sleep

Emotional Freedom Technique combines elements of traditional Chinese medicine, psychology, and neuroscience. The technique is based on the premise that negative emotions and traumatic experiences disrupt the body’s energy flow, leading to physical and emotional imbalances. By stimulating specific acupressure points through tapping, EFT helps to rebalance the body’s energy system and promote emotional healing.

Numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of EFT in reducing anxiety, stress, and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These same benefits can translate into improved sleep quality. By addressing the root causes of emotional distress, EFT can help regulate the body’s stress response and promote a calm and peaceful state of mind conducive to sleep.

How to practice Emotional Freedom Technique for better sleep

To practice EFT for better sleep, find a quiet and comfortable space where you can focus on your emotions and thoughts. Begin by identifying the specific emotional issue or concern that is affecting your sleep. It could be stress, anxiety, or any other negative emotion that is keeping you awake at night.

Once you have identified the emotion, rate its intensity on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being no intensity and 10 being the highest intensity. This will help you track your progress as you tap.

EFT tapping points and techniques for sleep

EFT involves tapping on specific acupressure points on the body while repeating affirmations or focusing on the issue at hand. The main tapping points include the top of the head, eyebrow, side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, chin, collarbone, and under the arm. Use your fingertips to gently tap on each point while stating your chosen affirmation.

For example, if you are experiencing anxiety before sleep, you might tap on the side of your eye while saying, “Even though I feel anxious, I deeply and completely accept myself.” Repeat this process for each tapping point, focusing on the emotion or thought that is interfering with your sleep.

EFT affirmations for a peaceful night’s sleep

Affirmations are positive statements that help reframe negative thoughts and emotions. When practicing EFT for sleep, it’s important to choose affirmations that resonate with your specific concerns. Here are some examples of affirmations you can use:

“I release all tension and anxiety, allowing myself to drift into a peaceful sleep.”

“I let go of the day’s worries and embrace tranquility and serenity.”

“I am deserving of a restful and rejuvenating sleep, free from any disturbances.”

Repeat your chosen affirmation while tapping on the acupressure points, allowing the positive statement to sink deeply into your subconscious mind.

Combining EFT with other relaxation techniques for enhanced results

While EFT can be effective on its own, combining it with other relaxation techniques can further enhance its benefits for sleep. Consider incorporating deep breathing exercises, mindfulness meditation, or aromatherapy into your bedtime routine. These practices can help calm the mind and prepare the body for a restful night’s sleep.

Case studies and success stories of using EFT for sleep

Many individuals have experienced profound improvements in their sleep quality through the practice of EFT. Case studies and success stories highlight the transformative power of this technique. For example, Sarah, a chronic insomniac, found relief from her sleepless nights after incorporating EFT into her nightly routine. She reported feeling more relaxed, calm, and able to fall asleep faster and stay asleep throughout the night.

EFT resources and tools for better sleep

If you’re interested in exploring EFT further for better sleep, there are various resources and tools available to support your journey. Online tutorials, books, and mobile applications can provide guidance and structured EFT sessions tailored specifically for sleep-related issues. Additionally, seeking the guidance of a certified EFT practitioner can offer personalized support and ensure you’re utilizing the technique effectively.

Emotional Freedom Technique / EFT : How Does It Work?

By – James M. Katz, BA

Have you ever heard of the Emotional Freedom Technique / EFT or remote energy healing? These two practices may seem like new-age concepts to some, but they have been around for centuries. EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique, is a type of energy psychology that involves tapping on specific points on the body to release emotional blockages. It is said to help with a wide range of issues, from anxiety and depression to physical pain and chronic illness.

Remote energy healing, on the other hand, is a form of healing that can be done from a distance. It is based on the idea that everything in the universe is connected through energy, and that energy can be manipulated for healing purposes. Practitioners of remote energy healing use various techniques to send positive energy to a person, even if they are not physically present.

In the article below, it goes into detail what remote energy healing really is. It explains how we are energy and how it can be used to benefit us. It differs from EFT. Emotional Freedom Technique much like acupuncture taps energy points to help release negative energy and promote balance.

“Every experience we encounter can leave an energetic impression on our biofield, and because the body has a natural ability to heal itself, we are able to brush most things off. But often, too much of the same stimulus—like everyday stress or traumatic events—can alter our natural way of being. We build defenses to adapt to our environment, getting further away from our purest expression, and our unique frequency gets distorted. Energy work seeks to remove that disruption in your energy and move you closer to re-alignment.

What is EFT?

EFT is based on the principles of acupuncture, but instead of using needles, it involves tapping on specific points on the body. These points are located on the meridian lines, which are the channels through which energy flows in the body. By tapping on these points, EFT is said to help release emotional blockages and balance the body’s energy.

The tapping is done while focusing on a specific issue, such as anxiety or pain. While tapping, the person repeats a statement that acknowledges the issue and affirms their self-acceptance. This is said to help release the emotional charge associated with the issue and lead to a sense of calm and peace.

Understanding Remote Energy Healing

Remote energy healing is based on the idea that everything in the universe is made up of energy, including our bodies. When our energy is out of balance, it can lead to physical, emotional, and mental health problems. Remote energy healing works by sending positive energy to a person, even if they are not physically present.

There are many different techniques used in remote energy healing, including Reiki, Quantum Touch, and Pranic Healing. Practitioners of remote energy healing believe that by sending positive energy to a person, they can help balance their energy and promote healing.

The Science behind the Emotional Freedom Technique and Remote Energy Healing

While EFT and remote energy healing may seem like mystical practices, there is actually scientific evidence to support their effectiveness. Studies have shown that EFT can help reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and chronic pain. One study even found that EFT was more effective than cognitive-behavioral therapy for reducing symptoms of depression.

Similarly, studies have shown that remote energy healing can have a positive effect on physical and emotional health. One study found that patients who received remote energy healing had a significant reduction in pain and anxiety compared to those who did not receive the treatment.

While the exact mechanisms behind EFT and remote energy healing are not fully understood, some theories suggest that they work by promoting the relaxation response in the body. This response is associated with a decrease in stress hormones and an increase in feel-good hormones like serotonin and dopamine.

The Benefits of the Emotional Freedom Technique and Remote Energy Healing

The benefits of EFT and remote energy healing are vast and varied. Some of the most commonly reported benefits of EFT include:

  • Reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression
  • Improved sleep
  • Reduced physical pain
  • Increased sense of well-being
  • Improved relationships

Similarly, some of the benefits of remote energy healing include:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Improved mood
  • Increased energy and vitality
  • Improved immune system function
  • Faster recovery from illness and injury

How EFT and Remote Energy Healing Work Together

EFT and remote energy healing can be used together to promote even greater healing. One way this is done is by using EFT to release emotional blockages that may be contributing to physical health problems. For example, if a person is experiencing chronic pain, EFT can be used to release any emotional trauma that may be contributing to the pain.

Once the emotional blockages have been released, remote energy healing can be used to promote physical healing. By sending positive energy to the affected area, the body’s natural healing processes can be activated, leading to faster recovery.

The Role of Emotions in EFT and Remote Energy Healing

Emotions play a crucial role in both EFT and remote energy healing. In EFT, the tapping is done while focusing on a specific emotion or issue. By acknowledging and accepting the emotion, it can be released, leading to a sense of calm and peace.

Similarly, remote energy healing works by balancing the body’s energy, which can be disrupted by negative emotions. By promoting positive emotions like love and gratitude, remote energy healing can help balance the body’s energy and promote healing.

Techniques for Practicing EFT and Remote Energy Healing

While EFT and remote energy healing are best done with the guidance of a trained practitioner, there are techniques that can be done at home. For EFT, there are many online resources and videos that can guide you through the tapping process. It is important to focus on a specific issue and to repeat a positive affirmation while tapping.

For remote energy healing, there are many different techniques that can be used, including visualization, meditation, and prayer. It is important to find a technique that resonates with you and to practice it regularly.

EFT and Remote Energy Healing Research and Studies

There is a growing body of research on EFT and remote energy healing, with many studies showing promising results. However, more research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms behind these practices and to determine their effectiveness for different health conditions.

Finding an EFT and Remote Energy Healing Practitioner

If you are interested in trying EFT or remote energy healing, it is important to find a trained practitioner who can guide you through the process. Look for someone who is certified and has experience working with your specific health condition.

Conclusion

EFT and remote energy healing are two practices that have been around for centuries and are gaining popularity in the modern world. While they may seem like mystical concepts, there is scientific evidence to support their effectiveness. By tapping into the body’s energy and promoting positive emotions, these practices can help promote healing and improve overall well-being. If you are interested in trying EFT or remote energy healing, be sure to find a trained practitioner who can guide you through the process.

Commentary

The emotional freedom technique is a psychological treatment that is used to help people cope with psychological distress. The technique is based on the principle that emotions are stored in the body and that by releasing these emotions, people can feel better. The emotional freedom technique involves tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on a particular emotion. The theory behind the emotional freedom technique is that by tapping on these points, the emotion can be released from the body and the person can feel better.

The procedure is very much tied to the Eastern practice of Acupuncture.  With similar philosophical beliefs on energy points within the body, EFT takes a more empirical look at how these points play a pivotal role in the body regarding the process of energy itself.  Through mentally addressing issues, the belief is energy within the body can be better moved allowing stress to be faced and reduced through tapping and a series of repetitive words addressing the issue itself.  It is important if dealing with deeper trauma to consult a licensed professional who is certified in EFT.  AIHCP offers certifications in EFT to qualified professionals who would like to utilize this practice in their work.

How to apply EFT

To apply EFT, one would need to first identify the problem or issue that they would like to address. Once the issue is identified, the individual would then tap on various points on their body while repeating a phrase related to the issue. The tapping helps to release any negative emotions that may be associated with the issue. By doing this, the individual is then able to more effectively deal with the issue at hand.  The tapping on the pressure points open the body to release negative energy, but is only effective when tied with thought and words.  It is done in a series of cycles that upon completion of each is correlated to how one feels on a rating scale.   With each successive cycle, the rating scale should indicate less stress and more ease and relaxation.

There are a number of benefits associated with EFT, including the fact that it is a relatively quick and easy intervention to learn and administer. Additionally, EFT has been shown to be effective for a variety of psychological problems, including anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, and phobias. Furthermore, research suggests that EFT may also be helpful in improving physical health conditions such as headaches, chronic pain, and fatigue.

When used in a clinical setting, a counselor can who is certified in EFT can deal with far more complex issues than a mere certified EFT practitioner without a counseling license.  In these sessions, a counselor can utilize EFT to treat trauma and other more deep and pathological issues facing the patient.  After completing the courses and fulfilling the practicum of working with a volunteer patient, AIHCP will certify qualified professionals.  The program is also open to those only interested in learning how to self apply EFT to themselves.

Conclusion

EFT has numerous benefits related to stress, trauma and lack of focus

In conclusion, EFT has many benefits that make it worth trying for anyone struggling with negative emotions or stress. It is quick, easy to learn, and can be done anywhere. Additionally, EFT is backed by scientific research and has been shown to be effective in reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. EFT can be a successful way to work through difficult emotions. It is important to find a certified practitioner, and to be patient as you work through the process. You may not see results immediately, but with time and commitment, EFT can be helpful for managing difficult emotions.  If you are struggling with negative emotions or stress, give EFT a try.

AIHCP also offers a comprehensive EFT certification program which can not only help individuals learn to use EFT for themselves, but also train qualified professionals how to properly use it and teach others.  The EFT certification program is online and independent study and open to qualified professionals seeking a four year certification as an EFT Practitioner.

Energy Medicine: Its Future is Now

By: Dominick L. Flarey, Ph.D, RN-BC, ANP-BC,
       Master EFT Practitioner

The future is energy medicine (1). This is the medicine of the future that will allow us to heal ourselves and others with the power of our minds. It is a form of alternative medicine that is based on the belief that our bodies have an innate ability to heal themselves. Energy medicine is said to be able to promote healing by restoring balance to the body’s energy systems. This type of medicine is becoming more popular as more people are looking for alternatives to traditional medicine.

Observational medicine has encountered several barriers when it comes to the treating of chronic conditions. This has encouraged some people to turn to energy medicine in order to treat their ailments. It appears like an alternative remedy that might sound unfounded in theory yet, in actuality, has proven its effectiveness.

Energy medicine is not a new fad. It has been around for eons. The Chinese have been practicing it over thousands of years as have other cultures. All living things have an energy field and emit and absorb electromagnetic radiation. A person’s health is dependent on the natural flow of this energy. When it is disrupted, imbalances can occur, resulting in disease and illness.

There are several energy modalities being practiced today, including emotional freedom technique and acupuncture and pranic healing. Others are qigong, reiki, therapeutic touch, and tai chi. We will explore these in more detail.

The Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotion Freedom Technique(2)  is another method that use acupressure to relieve energy blockage on key points and chakras of the body.  It can address the emotional reasons behind the illness or condition. By focusing on different aspects of the problem, and then tapping on key points on the face, hands and chest, blockage of energy can be relieved and symptoms can be alleviated. This method can be easily learned and applied with virtually no side effects.

The emotional freedom technique is a form of psychological acupuncture that uses the body’s energy meridians to relieve stress and negative emotions. The technique is based on the belief that emotions are caused by imbalances in the body’s energy meridians, and that these imbalances can be corrected by tapping on specific points on the body. EFT is a form of therapy that works by tapping on the meridians. The theory behind EFT is that when we tap on the meridians, we are able to balance the energy in our bodies and clear any blockages that may be causing us problems. By clearing these blockages, we are able to improve our physical and emotional well-being.

The meridian system is a network of energy pathways that run throughout the body. According to traditional Chinese medicine, these pathways are responsible for transporting qi (or life force energy) throughout the body. Acupuncture and acupressure are two common modalities that work by stimulating these points along the meridians in order to promote balance and health.

The emotional freedom technique, also known as “tapping,” is a form of psychological acupuncture that uses acupressure points on the body to help relieve stress and anxiety. Tapping has been shown to be an effective treatment for a variety of mental health issues, including depression, PTSD, and phobias. The benefits of tapping include improved mood, reduced anxiety, and increased feelings of well-being. The emotional freedom technique has been shown to be effective in reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, and in improving mood and well-being.

There is a growing body of research that suggests the emotional freedom technique (EFT) is an effective intervention for reducing psychological distress and improving well-being. EFT is a form of energy psychology that uses acupressure points to help balance the body’s energy systems and alleviate stress. Studies have found that EFT is associated with reductions in anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms, as well as improvements in quality of life and positive emotion.

Roger Callahan is a psychologist who developed thought field therapy, a type of alternative therapy. The therapy is based on the idea that negative emotions are caused by disruptions in the body’s energy field, and that these disruptions can be corrected by tapping on specific points on the body. Dr. Callahan is famous for his dramatic cure of a client with a long-standing water phobia using thought field therapy. Our of thought field therapy, the emotional freedom technique was born. Thought Field Therapy remains a very popular and effective energy medicine modality today.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is another method that has become more mainstream and is based on the same principles as EFT. There are over 2000 acupuncture points on the body. Energy flows between those points. Needles are inserted into these areas and turned, which can correct the imbalances created by the energy blockages.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) technique that involves the insertion of thin needles into the body at specific points. Although the exact mechanisms are not fully understood, it is thought that acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system and, in turn, the release of chemicals in the brain that can help to alleviate pain.

There is a growing body of evidence that suggests acupuncture can have positive psychological effects. For example, one study found that acupuncture can help reduce anxiety and depression in cancer patients (1). Other research has shown that acupuncture can help improve quality of life and reduce stress in people with various health conditions (2). Acupuncture may work by stimulating the release of feel-good chemicals in the brain, such as endorphins.

Pranic Healing

Pranic healing is a form of energy medicine that uses the body’s own life force to heal itself. It is based on the belief that the body is composed of energy, and that this energy can be used to heal the body. Pranic healing is said to be able to help the body heal itself by working with the body’s own energy. Life force energy is the energy that animates and sustains all living things. It is also known as prana, ki, chi, mana, and other names in different cultures. This energy is thought to be essential for life and health, and it is believed to flow through the body in specific pathways called meridians.

Pranic healing is a modality that uses actual physical sweeping of the hands to remove negative, contaminated energy from the body. Care has to be taken so that the healer does not absorb that energy into his own energy field or aura. Cleansing exercises must be practiced daily to keep the healer clear.  Pranic healers don’t use their own energy but act as a conduit and receive energy from outside themselves. They can infuse this energy into their patients and promote rapid healing. Everyone has the capacity to heal themselves. This is a method that can be learned in a few hours, and you don’t have to be a natural healer to get results.

Therapeutic Touch

Therapeutic touch(5)  is an energy medicine modality that uses the practitioner’s hands to direct and balance the patient’s energy field. The goal of therapeutic touch is to promote healing by restoring the natural flow of energy within the body.

The practitioner’s hands are used to assess the patient’s energy field and then to direct and manipulate the flow of energy. The practitioner may also use light touch or other techniques to help balance the patient’s energy field. There are many benefits of Therapeutic touch. This type of therapy can help to improve circulation, reduce pain, and promote relaxation. It can also help to increase range of motion and flexibility, and to improve the functioning of the immune system. Therapeutic touch can also be used to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

Reiki

Reiki(6) is a form of energy medicine that uses the universal life force energy to promote healing. The therapist will place their hands on or near the client’s body in a series of hand positions. The therapist will then channel the energy into the client’s body to promote healing. Reiki can be used to help with physical, mental, and emotional issues.

There is a growing body of evidence that suggests that reiki, an energy medicine modality, can be effective in the treatment of various conditions. A number of studies have shown that reiki can be helpful in reducing pain, improving quality of life, and reducing stress and anxiety. While the exact mechanism by which reiki works is not yet fully understood, it is thought to work by balancing the body’s energy fields and promoting healing.

man laying on table receiving a Reiki healing treatment

Qigong

Qigong(7)is an energy medicine modality that has been used for centuries in China. It is based on the belief that the human body has an energy field that can be manipulated to promote health and healing. Qigong practitioners use a variety of techniques, including body movement, meditation, and breath control, to balance the body’s energy.

Qigong is a type of energy medicine that uses specific movements and breath work to improve the flow of qi, or life energy, in the body. Qi is said to be the underlying life force that helps to maintain health and vitality. When qi is blocked or not flowing properly, it is believed to lead to illness and disease. Qigong practitioners use various techniques to help unblock and move qi through the body, thereby promoting healing and balance.

Tai Chi

Tai chi is a martial art that originated in China. It is based on the principle of yin and yang, which is the idea that two opposing forces are interconnected and interdependent. Tai chi is often described as “meditation in motion” because it stresses the importance of balance, harmony, and inner peace. The practice of tai chi involves slow, deliberate movements that are meant to be gentle and relaxing.

Tai chi is a Chinese martial art that incorporates both physical and mental exercise. Though often considered a form of “energy medicine,” tai chi’s efficacy in treating various medical conditions has not been extensively studied. Some small-scale studies have suggested that tai chi may improve balance and coordination, reduce stress and anxiety, and boost overall well-being; however, more research is needed to confirm these claims.

Energy Psychology

Energy psychology (9) is a field of study that emerged out of energy medicine. Energy medicine is based on the idea that the human body has an energy field that can be manipulated for healing purposes. Energy psychology takes this concept one step further, and posits that the mind also has an energy field that can be impacted in order to achieve psychological goals.

Energy psychology is a field of study that explores the relationship between energy and psychological states. It is based on the premise that our thoughts and emotions are connected to our physical bodies through an energy system, and that imbalances in this system can lead to psychological distress. Energy psychology techniques aim to restore balance to the energy system, and thus alleviate psychological symptoms.

Conclusion

The future of energy medicine looks very promising. With advances in technology, we are able to harness more and more of the body’s natural energy to heal. Energy medicine has been shown to be effective in treating a wide variety of conditions, and as we continue to research and develop new techniques, we will only be able to help more and more people.

Whether you believe in energy medicine or not, there are many people that have been helped or even cured of their afflictions because of it.  Also, energy medicine doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive. It can complement whatever conventional treatments you are doing. Everyone has the ability to heal, you just need to know how to tap into it.

Using the Emotional Freedom Technique to Be Free of Anxiety

The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

According to the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health, 18% of the population suffers from anxiety. Today, the eft tapping certificationleading treatment for this issue involves talk therapy, and the prescription of medications like Xanax and Ativan. However, these can have serious side effects like absent-mindedness, hallucinations and even depression. More and more anxiety sufferers are turning to an empowering, non-intrusive solution: the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), or “Tapping.”

The Meridian System

Based on the meridians of Chinese medicine, the Emotional Freedom Technique targets nine key points to unblock the negative energy created by trauma or stress that leads so many people into mental health issues. Tapping works on meridians related to the kidneys, heart, liver, spleen, bladder, lungs and lymphatic system. It is incredibly simple to use, and requires nothing but a pair of hands and an openness towards the roots of one’s anxiety.

Our Meridian system carries energy throughout our bodies. It is this energy system that drives all of our life processes and it vital to optimal functioning in body, mind and spirit. When our energy system becomes block, or the energy becomes low or stagnant, it is said that dysfunctions in body, mind and spirit occur. This includes the development of anxiety states. Tapping on about twelve of the main meridian points causes vibrations throughout the meridians and leads to energy becoming “unstuck” and free flowing once again. When energy becomes unstuck and free flowing we go back to states of homeostasis, of wellness. As many thousands have experienced, anxiety states are often rapidly relieved using EFT, the Emotional Freedom Technique.

EFT and Working with Energy

Using EFT is much more involved than just tapping on meridian end points. The process involves also using psychology. Working with the psyche. Here we work with the conscious issues and also memories. In doing so, while working and tapping on the meridians, the subconscious mind often awakens and suppressed memories come to the surface. That is just fine as we can use EFT/Tapping to move blocked energy around such suppressed memories and remove the terrible bodily and psyche symptoms that they elicit, often permanently.

Overall, EFT and Meridian Energy Tapping is really about working with energy. It is newer modality that is focused on energy healing. While many believe they can learn it from just reading a book, I firmly believe that such methods are totally inadequate if you are seeking quality outcomes and permanent solutions to problems and issues. EFT and Tapping are in-depth modalities and require considerable knowledge and skills in their applications. One must be well educated in theory, process and applications of the modality in order to achieve ultimate successes. One must be well educated and full understand body energy system, how to work with body energy and under the human psyche as an energy system as well in order for EFT/Tapping to be meaning and highly effective.

Uses of EFT

To use this system, the user simply taps the middle and ring fingers of one hand on the outer edge of her other hand, the top of her head, various facial points, her lower collar bone area and underarm. As she begins, she says out loud or silently, “Even though [truthful phrase], I still love and accept myself, anyways.”

This technique can be particularly useful for individuals who have experienced traumatic events such as physical abuse, rape or war trauma. However, it is also excellent for minor daily hiccups, and the kind of anxiety that arises seemingly from nowhere. The Emotional Freedom Technique has been shown to be useful for many other issues and problems including phobias, PTSD, depression, weight loss, self-image disturbances, smoking cessation, panic disorder, agoraphobia, sports performance, learning disorders, time management issues, relationship issues, and so much more. Its uses and effectiveness are vast as our body energy systems are involved and are instrumental in everything we are and do in life.

“Anxiety just creeps up on me, and then I get anxious about that and it just becomes a vicious cycle,” explains Andrea Vance, an Emotional Freedom Technique user from Vancouver, B.C., “I usually have no idea what caused it, but with EFT I’ve been able to locate the source a lot more easily, and to tap it down. I still get anxious sometimes, but it doesn’t stay as long.” EFT and Meridian Energy Tapping has shown great effectiveness in the treatment of anxiety disorders and panic disorder. It is a quick modality that can be applied in any situation where anxiousness or feelings of panic may begin to emerge. Countless thousands of people have found great relief using EFT/Tapping.

The key to success with EFT is to tell the truth. Unlike many modern techniques that use affirmations to move the mind to positive beliefs that the individual doesn’t yet accept, EFT provides a release valve for anxiety, smoothly allowing the person to express the underlying fear, anger and stress that cause obsessive thought patterns. For example, a rape survivor might say, “Even though I couldn’t stop it, I still love and accept myself, anyways.” As she moves through the other points, she might say, “I didn’t fight back,” “I was too scared to move,” or “I blame myself.” The science of EFT, again, is not always simple and really requires that one work and learn how to do it from a qualified, educated and importantly a Certified Practitioner of EFT.
