The article, “10 Myths About Meditation”, by Bhanu Narasimhan states

“While there are misconceptions and myths about many topics, one of the most popular topics is meditation. Say the word, “meditation” and all kinds of images and notions come up. Is this for me? I can’t sit for long hours.”

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

This article looks at the many myths of meditation Meditation instructors realize that meditation has many myths behind it.

Some believe meditation is only for religious people.  Others believe meditation is completely Eastern. The reality is meditation is a universal human experience that requires very little that many think.

Meditation can be done anywhere and anytime.  It does not require hypnotizing oneself or falling into a deep sleep.

Instead meditation is a healthy way to reconnect with yourself and live a healthier life.  It helps you focus and face issues.

Yet, for the religious, it still can possess the spiritual fruits those of East or West seek.

Day of the Dead tradition offers natural way to view death

The article, “Day of the Dead tradition offers natural way to view death”, by Liz DeCarlo states

“A lesson from Mexico. The Day of the Dead exhibit at the National Museum of Mexican Art helps families explore the subject of death in a healthy, less fearful way.”

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

The Day of the Dead in Mexico in all reality ironically celebrates life.  It has an understanding that life exists after death and that we should honor the dead and their new existence.

It also makes others outside of the country focus more on death.  It forces, those of another culture, to re-think about their own existence and to examine their own existence.

Death is inevitable and it is time the American culture stop considering it a taboo subject but discuss it openly and honestly.  This is what Elisabeth Kubler Ross advocated years before and it is what needs to be done now.

If you are interested in taking courses in grief counseling or wish to become certified in grief counseling, then review our program.  Our program is online and consists of four core courses.  After completion of all four courses, you are then eligible for certification in grief counseling.  The certification lasts for three years and is renewed upon that time

Do We Ever Stop Grieving?

The article, “Do We Ever Stop Grieving?”, by James Van Praagh states

“I believe that we souls learn something significant from all of our experiences, no matter how grand or small. Each experience changes us. When someone in your life transitions to a spiritual form, they never go without leaving gifts behind.”

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

Grief is part of the human existence.  If we lose something we value, we will always in some way grieve it.  If we did not grieve it, of what value would it be?

Grief Counselors can help people cope and adapt through grief, but should never deny the griever the right to grieve, even if many, many years later.

Yes, the grief stings less as time goes by and the adaption to life begins, but the past chapters of our life help make us who we are.  The past grief helped mold us and if still grieve over a loss, it only shows we are human and we lost something or someone very wonderful.

As long as is your grief is not complicated or pathological, then embrace it, it is what makes you, you.

The article, “Strengthening Experiences From Patients While Dying”, by Dr T. Jared Bunch, MD states

“Death is a great part of the human experience. It is often an experience that we will not go through alone.”

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

Pastoral Care of the dying is about treating the whole person.  This article looks at how we can help the dying move to the next world.  So many times in the past, we have seen the dying pass away in a sterile hospital environment with death being seen as the enemy.

When we accept death and that we are now terminal, we still try to live but we understand that quality of the short time in all doubt left is critical.  Being treated and understood as a human being is critical but also the fact that we see death not as a complete adversary although we try to flee it but more as a part of life.

Our Pastoral Thanatology Program helps train individuals in the art of pastoral care to the dying.  After completing the required courses, you are then eligible to become certified in Pastoral Thanatology.

Myths about palliative care – Independent.ie

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

End of life is not about traveling to the Elephant Grave Yard but is about quality of life.  Good pastoral care is about helping people have a quality existence that treats the entire person.

Many myths exist about palliative and hospice care.  Those trained in Pastoral Thanatology understand that pastoral care of the dying is about treating the person not the illness.  While other myths exist about palliative care, one should not necessarily see it as the end of the road but instead a transition to another life with the care needed  to help one not just physically, but also emotionally

I do believe that many are beginning to see pass previous misconceptions of palliative care and are beginning to see the benefits and joys of being treated as full human being instead of merely the symptoms.  Many also find joy in finding solace in their last days at home.  This is truly a blessing for many and should be universally more applied.  No one, unless it is a medical must, wishes to suffer and die in a hospital.

In the meantime, enjoy our blog which has additional articles on Pastoral Thanatology and Pastoral Care.  You can also visit our grief counseling page for similar information on helping the dying.  We also have Facebook, Google Plus and Twitter pages to review.

Different Forms of Meditation You Can Use.

The article, “4 Types Of FUN Meditation”, by Dejan Davchevski states

“Let’s look at the most fun ways to meditate. In this fast pace way of living we must find 30 minutes per day to just calm down and rest our brain.”

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

4 Different Forms of Meditation

Basic meditation is quietly sitting down somewhere and focusing on clearing your mind.   This meditation technique is easy to learn.   There are however several other completely different forms of meditation.

Spiritual meditation is when you pray to a higher power for something you need in life.   How it differs from prayer is you are also meditating at the same time.   You are focusing on your intentions and your prayers.   Once done you feel relaxed and well rested.

Focused meditation is a form of meditation where you “focus” on the things and aspects in your life you enjoy the most.   It could be the sounds of nature or the way someone makes you feel.   By using focus meditation you can sharpen your thoughts and relax yourself.

The next form combines exercise with meditation.  It is movement meditation.    Here you stay focused on the movements of your body while you exercise.    It could be as simple as focusing on your legs while you jog or on your muscles as you lift.   With movement meditation you are giving your mind a break by staying focused on something else.

Lastly there is guided meditation.   In guided meditation you listen to someone or something as it guides you on what to think and what to focus on.    By listening your mind starts to create images that you can focus on.     These images or thoughts allow you to create your own adventure.

Want to learn how to become a meditation instructor?   Then you should visit the American Institute of Health Care Professionals.   Their online certificate program in Meditation Instruction is the perfect place to learn all of these meditation forms.

How Hypnosis Can Help You Lose Weight

The article, “Training your mind to lose weight”, by Cassy Small states

“Hypnotherapy can unlock the potential of the mind to promote and sustain weight loss, according to a new book.”

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

What to Learn How Hypnosis Can Help You Lose Weight?

Losing weight and pants sizes is all about diet and exercise.   Eating the right foods, avoiding the wrong ones and plenty of exercise.   Sounds tiring doesn’t it?    That is because you need to train both your body and mind when starting on a weight loss program.    To train your body you have proper dieting and exercise however to train your mind you need something else.

Training your mind with hypnosis is an excellent way to keep yourself on goal.    By using hypnotherapy to train your brain you can rid yourself of toxic thoughts and food addictions.     Once in a trance a hypnotherapist can get to the root of your food addictions and help you refrain from craving them.    This is how hypnosis can help you lose weight.

Once you have addressed your craving you can use hypnotherapy to further your commitment to weight loss.   The more you exercise and receive hypnotherapy, the more you can use to help you stay motivated.    This will help you avoid becoming run down or burned out.

Hypnosis can help you with a number of other issues as well.   If you are interested, you can take online hypnotherapy courses through the American Institute of Health Care Professionals.   They offer an online clinical hypnotherapy certification program.

health care life coaching – Weight loss is a key solution for healing diabetes

Health Care Life Coaching and Weight Loss For You

A significant segment of the population today suffers from Type 2 diabetes. No wonder why controlling the same has become a must as diabetes is known to worsen several chronic heart diseases. Doctors and those certified in Health Care Life Coaching often advise patients with excess weight and diabetes to keep a check on their weight and try and reduce it considerably and steadily over a period of time. Let’s find out the reason.

Diabetes and weight loss

Several research results have revealed that weight loss is an important solution to check diabetes. When a person, who is overweight, also suffers from diabetes, s/he has an increased risk of suffering from heart diseases. This is why it’s crucial to lose weight and once the weight is lost, to ensure that it stays lost and doesn’t return.

It is important to understand here that weight loss directly affects blood pressure and cholesterol levels by bringing them down and within manageable levels. Since exercises increase the rate of metabolism, doing the right workouts can help people shed those extra kilos. What’s more, the increased rate of metabolism will cause proper circulation of insulin in blood vessels and tissues, thus helping keep diabetes at bay. Insulin helps glucose enter tissues for metabolism and it is very important to reduce the resistance towards insulin to keep a check on type 2 diabetes. It is immensely important to circulate insulin throughout the body cells as anything otherwise will lead to the accumulation of fat because of the unused insulin. Insulin is an anabolic hormone that stores fat. It is advised by doctors worldwide to concentrate on exercise regimes and a balanced diet to lose weight and at the same time keep diabetes under control. In fact, weight loss can help control hyperglycemia of obese “diabetics” as is shown by some studies.

It has been found very difficult to achieve therapeutic weight loss in type 2 diabetic patients due to several reasons.  This is why it’s important to plan carefully to shed those extra kilos in people suffering from diabetes. Some remedies to combat diabetes keeping the simultaneous goal of weight loss in mind are:

  • Green tea: Sipping green tea twice a day always proves to be excellent for the body. It not only helps to burn excess fat, but also helps to keep cholesterol levels under control. It is a perfectly natural and herbal way to keep your weight and blood sugar levels under control. It is also known to increase the production of insulin to compensate for the inappropriate use of insulin. Green tea is known to prevent heart diseases since it relaxes the blood vessels, thereby facilitating proper blood circulation. It is also known to eliminate excess water from the body, thus reducing body weight significantly when it’s consumed regularly.
  • White kidney beans: These beans are convex shaped and hence known as kidney beans. They are very rich in fiber, proteins, vitamins and other essential minerals. These beans have soluble fibers that absorb water when food passes through the digestive tract. This is very important to slow the process of digestion and trap fat. This process can lower the body fat and cholesterol levels, which in turn can control diabetes, heart diseases and stroke.
  • Raspberry ketones: Raspberry ketones offer a natural and effective way to shed the excess fat as they oxidize the excess fat accumulated in the body. The body needs to use up the essential calorie while the unwanted calories should be burnt or oxidized. This is exactly what raspberry ketone does for you. It helps emulsify the excess fat in the body, triggering insulin circulation between the body cells and tissues, thereby keeping a check on high glucose levels.
  • Dendrobium extract: Extracts from the genus of the orchid plant known as dendrobium can increase the rate of metabolism if consumed prior to a workout session. A study on rats done by researchers of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine showed how dendrobium mixture had a hypoglycemic effect on rat models of type 2 diabetes. The results revealed that the mixture can protect and restore pancreatic tissue’s structure and function.

When it comes to weight loss in diabetic patients, the approach needs to be carefully planned, and should include educational sessions with dietitians complemented by a personalized instruction manual on weight loss to suit an individual’s health condition.  Those certified in Health Care Life Coaching can also help set up a plan

Want to Learn How to Reduce Job Stress? Pay more!

The article, “What Makes Work Less Stressful? More Money”, by Sara Angeles states

“No wonder your boss looks so relaxed. Roughly two- thirds of Americans are stressed at work. Here’s how employers can help.”

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

How to Reduce Job Stress?   Start by Paying Your Employees a Little More.

What is workplace stressWorkplace stress is a productivity killer.  It costs millions a year to businesses.   It also ends careers and has negative physical side effects to your employees.   How to reduce job stress?   One answer is pay your employees more.

A new study showed that money matters, A LOT!   Salary was the number one reason for job stress.   The second leading cause?   Again money matters not related to salary.   Not making enough at a job can cause productivity to slip and your employees to get burned out or look for other opportunities.

What affect does higher pay have on stress?   It allows the employee to relax and have financial security.   This will lead to the same relaxed and motivated feelings while at work.    Not only does this lead to higher levels of productivity but employees will also be more willing to voice ideas and problems with the office.

How to make work less stressful for you employees can start with the hiring process.    It is suggested that bonuses and raises are fine but you should also try hiring in employees at a higher rate of pay.    Paying a higher rate of salary from the beginning can greatly reduce stress and remove negative workplace outcomes.

In short, do not see employee salary as a cost associated with business but as an investment in your company’s future.   Because employees are the face of a business.    Do you really want your potential customers seeing a burned out frown or a pleasant smile?
