Our child grief counseling program can help prepare you to help children cope and grieve properly, especially during the Holidays

The article, “When the Holidays Aren’t Joyous: 5 Tips for Helping Children Cope With Loss”, by Bonnie Rubenstein

“For kids, the holidays are supposed to be filled with joy and excitement. However, for some children who have suffered a recent loss, the holidays can be especially hard.”

The biggest thing parents, teachers and grief counselors can do is listen to kids and let them know its is alright to grieve. especially during these sad times.  Helping children cope with grief is best done through new rituals or expressions during the Holiday season.  A memory box is an excellent example found in the article.  In the end, remember, children grieve like all of us over the loss of a loved one and not to ignore their grief.

Are You Walking Your Mantra?

The article, “Are You Walking Your Mantra?”, by Ora Nadrich states

“If we all walked around holding a beautiful mantra in our mind, imagine what kind of “spiritual transformation” we would be creating collectively.”

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

This article about meditation just simply asks the question if you are really living your mantra in your daily life or just going through the process during meditation

Allowing your mantra to take root and produce fruits in your daily life is key.  The grace of God can come through and help you do the good you intend or the happiness you desire. This is why it is important to live your mantra and not just speak it during prayer.  Quick recitation or skipping steps can disrupt the positive effects that meditation can give you.  The words need to have meaning and be carried out of your quiet spot.

If you would like to become a meditation instructor, then please review the program.  To become a meditation instructor, qualified professionals need to complete the meditation courses.  After completion of these courses, the professional becomes eligible to be certified in meditation.

For those who wish to recertify, one must complete five hundred hours of meditation instruction and complete fifty hours of meditation continuing education.

In the meantime, please enjoy our blog and articles and if you have any questions, please let us know.

A Christian Counselor’s Perspective on the Dangers of Pornography

The article, “A Christian Counselor’s Perspective on the Dangers of Pornography”, by Chris Chandler states

By Chris Chandler, MA, LMHC, CSAT-C , Seattle Christian Counseling, PLLC References “Wired for Intimacy” by William M. Struthers, Ph. D. What’s so bad about porn?”

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

A very good article from a Christian Counselor about the evils of pornography–the supposed victimless sin.
The reality is as the Chris Chandler points out, it objectifies the participants as well as men and women in general who perform in these vile acts.  It also defiles the intimacy of the sexual union and makes sex a sport instead an act of love.

The people themselves commit fornication and also sin in their corruption of others.

The fact is pornography is far from innocent and is an ever growing evil as it takes people to greater depths of moral deprivation.  If you are a Christian Counselor, how do you deal with this habit among your spiritual children?  Like any sinful habit it can be a trying time as pornography can dominate the soul and ruin relationships.  Christian counselors need to focus on the healing Spirit and pray together with the person.  If Catholic, frequent confession is advisable.  For both Catholics and non-Catholics, meditation, pray and scripture are key to finding purity.  If the person falls, get back up without shame, and know the Lord sees your effort and will eventually cleanse you.  Many times, falling teaches us that we cannot defeat a vice without the Lord

Spiritual care: challenges in a multicultural and multireligious society

Our program in pastoral thanatology prepares people for spiritual and cultural diversity of the dying
Our program in pastoral thanatology prepares people for spiritual and cultural diversity of the dying

The article, “Spiritual care: challenges in a multicultural and multireligious society”, by Piret Paal states

“Piret Paal researcher at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, explains the key points discussed at a recent German-speaking conference on multireligious spirituality and multiprofessional…”

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

A good reminder for care givers and social workers in ministry that not all share the same values and faith.

When giving spiritual care in a pastoral setting, one can face many cultural and religious backgrounds that view death, suffering and God from different prisms.  A pastoral care giver needs to be prepared to help people from these different view points.  Pastoral Thanatology is about serving everyone from a spiritual perspective and of human wholeness.  To be better able to accomplish this, a care giver must be well versed in various other cultures and spiritual practices.

A good spiritual counselor, pastoral care giver, or medical care giver should have at least some understanding of different cultures and religions if they are around death and the dying.

If you are interested in learning more about spiritual counseling, then please review the program.  If you are interested on how to become a pastoral care giver for the dying, then review our other programs in grief and pastoral care

Our program in Pastoral Thanatology covers basic core concepts within the field of grief and dying.  After completion of the program, qualified professionals are eligible for certification.

Pope Francis’ Stunning Critique Of Capitalism

The article, “Pope Francis ‘Evangelii Gaudium’ Calls For Renewal Of Roman Catholic Church, Attacks ‘Idolatry Of Money’”, source; Huffington Post

“(Reuters) – Pope Francis called for renewal of the Roman Catholic Church and attacked unfettered capitalism as “a new tyranny”, urging global leaders to fight poverty and growing inequality in the first major work he has authored alone as pontiff.”

American Institute Health Care Professionals‘s insight:

Evangelli Gaudium by the ponitff, Francis, should not surprise many.  Rerum Novarum by Pope Leo XIII also condemned many capitalistic aspects of greed.

Trickle down economics though really touches the nerves of many Conservative Capitalists, namely Republicans, who have for the longest time said it works.

Not according to the Pontiff. While only a spiritual leader, the Pope touches upon the fact the needs of the poor or put last in this system and left to the greed and decision of those with power of what trickles down or not.

Christian Counselors of course should avoid politics as much as possible, but when issues of care of the poor arise, they should be social activists.  Giving to the poor first, is key.  Awaiting arbitrary decisions by the elect and powerful is a scary thought.

Sandy Hook: Finding Gratitude, Even in Grief

The article, “Sandy Hook: Finding Gratitude, Even in Grief”, by Miranda Pacchiana states

“I will let my thoughts turn to friends, neighbors and all of those who are hurting and impacted by grave loss. I will consider the strength and trust that so many of them have shown.”

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

This article is sad and a sign of grief support.  The families of SandyHook no doubt suffered greatly on Thanksgiving, but many were also able to find happiness and love of the support and new friends they have found since the shooting.

Holistic Health Care for Diabetes Management

Healthy eating for diabetes management

Once diagnosed with diabetes one has to be very careful about food choices one make. Being diagnosed with diabetes however does not mean that we need to cut down on our temptations completely rather we should be able to continue enjoying a wide variety of foods as part of a healthy diet.

Although it looks like a great challenge at first look, it is not that tough. For making easier we require a diabetes meal plan, a guide that tells you how much and what kinds of food you can choose to have at meals and snack intervals. Follow the diabetic plan explained below:

1.       Have three meals a day:

Try not to skip the meals i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner. The basic idea is to have the proper meals and at proper timing daily. This will not only help to curb down the appetite but will also help to control the blood glucose levels.

2.       Have more fruits and vegetables

Include fresh green vegetables and fruits in your daily diet. The vegetables, fruits and nuts provide you the essential vitamins and minerals. Each day eat 5 portions from a variety of fruit, vegetables and salads.

3.       Include beans, pulses and lentils

Lentils and beans like kidney beans, French beans, chick peas all are full of nutritious contents and do not add on unwanted calories.

4.       Limit sugar and savories

Sugar and sweets can cause your blood glucose level to rise above the normal range.

Sugary foods cause two kinds of harm:

  • Weight gain
  • High blood sugar level

Hence try to avoid chocolates, cookies, sweets and crisp and replace them with healthy alternatives like fruits, low fat yogurts, plain popcorn, crisp breads, rice cakes.

5.       Reduce the salts in your diet

Reduce the salt content of your diet. Limit the processed foods you eat and limit the amount of salts in your food to 6 gm or less a day. Alternatively flavor your food using herbs and spices instead of salts.

6.       Cut down on the fat you eat and drink

Cut down saturated fats like butter, cheese, creams and oils as they are the greatest source of calories. Choose low fat alternatives by having skimmed milk, low fat yogurt, low fat spreads. Grill steam or oven bake instead of frying or cooking with oil or other fats. Cakes, biscuits and desserts that are labelled low fat as these can be high in sugar and are best avoided.

7.       Drink alcohol in moderation

People with diabetes should try to moderate their alcohol consumption as the alcohol suddenly increases the blood glucose levels to a very higher range. Never drink on empty stomach.

8.       Include fish in diet at least 2 times a week

Fish oil contains a type of polyunsaturated fat called omega 3, which helps protect against heart disease. Some fishes like salmon and mackerel are good for heart

Now that you are clear about the diet plans that must be strictly followed to control the diabetes, you must also keep it in mind to take the prescribed medications on time. Glucobay 100mg is a good option to deal with diabetes. Glucobay is used to control blood glucose for people with type 2 diabetes when diet, exercise, and weight reduction have not controlled it well enough on their own. Glucobay is an important intervention option throughout the hyperglycemic disease

Giving Thanks to God: Losing a National Tradition

The article, “Giving Thanks to God: Losing a National Tradition”, by Michael Craven states

“As we, once again, approach this national day of “thanksgiving” I thought it necessary to reflect upon our nation’s long history of acknowledging and giving thanks to the Almighty God.”

American Institute Health Care Professionals’ insight:

A good article about the need to be thankful to God from two of our greatest presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  In times of stress and grief, these men would issue how as a nation we should be thankful and pray to God to continue to bless our nation.

Today, people are becoming more secular and forgetting the purpose of Thanksgiving and turning into a shopping day. It is important to avoid secularism and the wanting more culture and embrace thankfulness and to remember others during this Holiday Season

Certified Christian Counselors can remind people of their need to be thankful during visits for even the smallest things.  Whether life is rough or not, we all have something to be thankful to God for.  Certified Christian Counselors have an excellent opportunity to incorporate thanks into their sessions with clients.

If you are interested in learning more about Christian Counseling or would like to find out where you can take online Christian Counseling courses, then please review the blog and site.  The program consist of seven core courses.  After completion of these core courses, qualified professionals are eligible for certification.

Once a certified Christian Counselor. one needs to renew every three years.  They also much practice five hundred hours of service and fifty hours of continuing education.
