Pet Loss Grief Counseling Program Article on Tears for Pets

Good article on pet loss grief and how tears can be so easy for the loss of a pet.  Some even have an easier time grieving for a pet than some humans.  This is easy to understand because many pets are so pure and innocent.

The article, Tears for pets often easier than for humans, by Alex Lo states

“The queen has mourned every one of her corgis over the years, but she has been more upset about Willow’s death than any of them,” a Buckingham Palace staff member was quoted as saying.

I don’t mean to be callous. The fact is that people can be more emotionally attached to their pets than close relatives.”

Good article on how grandparents can better talk to their grandchildren about grief.  Children grieve differently and need help expressing and understanding it.  Sometimes only grandparents are available or in the child’s life

The article, How to speak to your grandchildren about grief and death, by Starts at 60 Writers states

“Grief can be one of the hardest emotions to deal with at any age, but for a small child, it’s also extremely confusing and can be very scary.

That’s why children so badly need the adults in their lives to help them make sense of the emotions they may be feeling, and while parents play a huge role in this, grandparents are a much-needed support to their grandkids too, especially if the parents aren’t available or are suffering with grief themselves.”

Good article on the importance of introducing your child to the reality of death via a pet.  Whether a goldfish or rabbit, or even the family dog, it is important to teach your child the reality of death.  Of course, within a sensitive way!

The article, I Refuse To Lie To My Kid About The Death Of A Pet, by Kimmie Fink states,

“In the grand tradition of lying to our children, is the whopper we tell them when a beloved pet has died. Even before I became a mom, I never understood why parents would tell a child that their dog or cat went to live on a farm, ran away, or took a trip, instead of just telling them the truth.”
