Stress Management Program Article on Parenting Stress

Good article on the stress of parenting.  Parenting can be one of the most stressful jobs, albeit rewarding, the stress from the first day of having a child to even when they are well grown, is a continual stress of worry.  With anything worthwhile, comes stress.  Stress Management though can help one better deal with stress.

The article, Thoughtful Parenting: Parenting Stress — it matters; management is key, by Sue Fegelein states

“Parenting stress is the stress associated with being a parent. Parents are often juggling jobs, childcare, finances and household duties. Studies have shown that parents who report high parenting stress tend to be “authoritarian, harsh and negative in their reactions with their child,” and the quality of parent-child relationships is decreased by parenting stress.”

Pet Loss Grief Counseling Program Article on Tears for Pets

Good article on pet loss grief and how tears can be so easy for the loss of a pet.  Some even have an easier time grieving for a pet than some humans.  This is easy to understand because many pets are so pure and innocent.

The article, Tears for pets often easier than for humans, by Alex Lo states

“The queen has mourned every one of her corgis over the years, but she has been more upset about Willow’s death than any of them,” a Buckingham Palace staff member was quoted as saying.

I don’t mean to be callous. The fact is that people can be more emotionally attached to their pets than close relatives.”

With new prescription laws hoping to net abuse and limit drug addiction, there is a group suffering from the fallout.  Legitimate individuals in hospice and other post op patients are now suffering the effects of not having enough pain medication during recovery.  Hopefully a balance can be found.

The damage done by the epidemic is staggering:  2,356 people died in 2016 of drug overdoses in Michigan, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. This number eclipses the 1,064 deaths from car accidents in 2016, according to Michigan State Police.”

Child and Adolescent Grief Counseling Program Article on Grandparents and Grandkids

Good article on how grandparents can better talk to their grandchildren about grief.  Children grieve differently and need help expressing and understanding it.  Sometimes only grandparents are available or in the child’s life

The article, How to speak to your grandchildren about grief and death, by Starts at 60 Writers states

“Grief can be one of the hardest emotions to deal with at any age, but for a small child, it’s also extremely confusing and can be very scary.

That’s why children so badly need the adults in their lives to help them make sense of the emotions they may be feeling, and while parents play a huge role in this, grandparents are a much-needed support to their grandkids too, especially if the parents aren’t available or are suffering with grief themselves.”

Pet Loss Grief Counseling Certification Article on Children and Pet Loss

Good article on the importance of introducing your child to the reality of death via a pet.  Whether a goldfish or rabbit, or even the family dog, it is important to teach your child the reality of death.  Of course, within a sensitive way!

The article, I Refuse To Lie To My Kid About The Death Of A Pet, by Kimmie Fink states,

“In the grand tradition of lying to our children, is the whopper we tell them when a beloved pet has died. Even before I became a mom, I never understood why parents would tell a child that their dog or cat went to live on a farm, ran away, or took a trip, instead of just telling them the truth.”
