Behavioral Therapy is an empirical based therapy and school of thought that recognizes behavior and cognition as key factors in mental pathology. Learned behaviors and how one thinks play key roles in how we feel and how we react and think to things. This does not dismiss genetic and biological issues, but it does point to many behaviors and quirks that trace themselves back to one’s upbringing, culture and thinking processes. Behavioral therapy looks to change how we act and think by teaching one to react and think differently through a variety of behavioral and cognitive modification. CBT is an offshoot of it from it and was formulated by behavioral therapists.
