COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to the online CE course; LN 450 – Legal Nurse Consulting Process & Application

Upon successful completion of this course, students are awarded 30 contact hours of continuing education creditsCourse Code: LN 450.

This final course is pivotal for bring everything together in the building of a solid knowledge and theory base in legal nurse consulting practice. Students study actual cases and legal nurse consulting reports and learn additional skills related to work product for attorney clients. Effective report writing methodologies are examined. This course culminates in the actual full analysis of cases from the legal nurse consulting viewpoint and work product. Students conduct a real case analysis with full applicability of learned materials from the entire continuing education program of study. This course also provides the knowledge necessary to undertake one more additional and “optional” Continuing education course for those seeking a CE activity in a preceptorship with an attorney, law firm or a practicing legal nurse consultant. This is a guided, independent study CE Course. You are to study and progress at your own rate. There are no written assignments. It is recommended that you follow this process for completion of the course :

TIME FRAME: You are allotted two years from the date of enrollment, to complete this course. There are no set time-frames, other than the two year allotted time. If you do not complete the course within the two-year time-frame, you will be removed from the course and an “incomplete” will be recorded for you in our records. Also, if you would like to complete the course after this two-year expiration time, you would need to register and pay the course tuition fee again.

COURSE ASSIGNMENT:

1. Please proceed to the sample cases posted below. This is a composite of actual cases. You are to read, review and study them. This is your preparation for the Final examination.

2. The final exam is a short answer exam. You will read, study and review the case posted for the final exam. The link to the case study for the course examination is provided below.

This is a real case based on a gynecological surgery. You must read and study this case in order to complete the final exam. When you are ready for the final exam, please notify me according to the directions provided for requesting examination access.

Study Process:

1. Please read/study the Case Studies for review (link above).

2. The objective to is familiarize your self with the format and process of doing an actual report on a case. These case studies and reports were completed by LNC’s and are actual reports from actual cases. You will learn a systematic format for presenting a case review, as well as review issues related to the elements of negligence for a malpractice case.

3. You do not have to “memorize” content.

4. Once you have reviewed/read the case studies, you will be ready to access the examination for this course. This examination is a “short answer” type of examination and is related to a Case Study from an actual Gerontology Case. The link to this case study is found below.

5. Examinations are “open book.” You may use your textbook as needed and you have the option of using any other resources you wish in working with this exam.

6. This examination is graded: “Pass or Fail.” You must respond appropriately to questions at 70% of the examination in order to pass the examination. To Access the examination, click the link below.

7. How to submit your completed examination: you have many options to submit your completed responses to the examination questions. All submissions must be type-written. Hand written responses will not be accepted. To submit: (1) you may copy/paste the questions into your word processor, type in your responses, and then send via an attached email file to: info@aihcp.org; or (2) you may fax in your completed responses to 330-652-7575; or (3) you may postal mail in your completed responses to: American Academy of Legal Nurse Consulting, 2400 Niles-Cortland Rd. SE, Suite # 3, Warren, Ohio 44484. When submitting your completed examination please be sure to include the following information at a minimum: your full name, your AH Username, the course title and course number, and your postal mailing address.

8. We will receive your completed examination and we will notify you of your total score. You may expect to receive your examination grade within 24- 48 hours of our receipt of the completed examination

9. If you successfully complete the examination with a passing score, we will process your CEU Certificate, which will include the course title, the awarded contact hours of continuing education, and the date of completion. Your CEU certificate will be postal mailed to you. You can expect to receive your certificate within 2 weeks of completing the online examination.

EXAMINATION:

CERTIFICATION: Legal Nurse Consulting. Upon successful completion of all four courses in this program, you are eligible for certification by the American College of Legal Nurse Consulting. For Information: click here.

GRADING: You must achieve a passing score of at least 70% to complete this course and receive the 30 hours of awarded continuing education credit. There are no letter grades assigned. You will receive notice of your total % score. Those who score below the minimum of 70% will be contacted by AIHCP and will be permitted one more attempt to retake the online examination.

COURSE EVALUATION: upon submitting your responses to the examination questions, you are required to complete the online Course Evaluation Form.  This will take you directly to the online evaluation form. Complete the evaluation and be sure to click the “submit” button. CE certificates will not be sent unless a course evaluation is completed.

COMMUNICATION: this is a self-directed, independent study course. However, you may certainly submit to us questions or comments regarding the course materials. We will be sure to forward any questions you may have to the author of the course. You will then receive a follow-up response from the author. E-Learning Library: Please access our E-Learning Library by clicking on the Tab on the left side of your computer screen. The E-Learning Library is a free service for all of our students. It is an ever-growing library of FREE E-Books that you may access at any time. The books are produced by us professionally on a wide array of health care related topics. You may read and or download them for later references. We frequently add new E-Books to the library on an on-going basis. The E-Books are not related to this course and so are not required readings for this course.
