Prerequisite for all Applicants for the Trauma Informed Care Specialist Certification. Candidates for certification must meet one of the following prerequisites to enter the program:

- A licensed counselor
- A licensed physician
- A licensed psychologist
- A licensed psychiatrist
- A licensed marriage and family therapist
- Other licensed health care professionals in a human behavior clinical practice with a minimum of a bachelors degree in a related field may be considered on a case by case basis.

Certified trauma informed care Specialist Continuing Education Courses
The Trauma Informed Care Continuing Education Program from AIHCP consists of two courses totaling $400. You may enroll and pay for one course at a time if you wish. These are all available as online classes, and you will receive a unique student ID number and password to access each course. These online environments feature a comprehensive syllabus and course information, which lists vital information on the course exam and evaluation. Students have access to the online classrooms at all times. All examinations are taken online. Courses are self-paced and students have two years to complete a program or can complete the course and program sooner. Faculty mentoring is always available as needed. Many courses have videos for supplementary course materials. The cost of the courses does not include the cost of required textbooks.
The following CE Courses are required to complete the Trauma Informed Care Curriculum to qualify for Certification as a Trauma Informed Care Specialist:
CI 620 – Trauma Informed Care
Loss, pain, and suffering are all parts of the universal human experience. When loss, pain and suffering exceed limits due to intensity, trauma can emerge in pockets of the population. Whether human caused or by the forces of nature, trauma can leave deep emotional scars on men, women, and children that present difficulties in healing. Trauma Informed Care recognizes the universal extent of trauma on humanity and specializes in identifying and treating the trauma survivor. It also provides for the victim/survivor the safety, security and trust needed to again become whole and healed.
This CE course discusses the nature of trauma, how it manifests, its mental and physical effects, how to help others heal from it and how to protect oneself as a counselor from secondary effects of trauma. Those in counseling, social work, human services, healthcare, and pastoral care and ministries need to be equipped with these skills to meet the needs of those inflicted with trauma due to violence, abuse, disaster, or devastating loss. The purpose of the course is aimed to help these mental health and healthcare professionals to be better equipped to identify trauma and treat trauma in a broken and trauma filled world.

CI 625 – Understanding Compassion Fatigue and Vicarious Trauma in Helping Professionals
This CE course explores the emotional and psychological challenges faced by helping professionals, with a focus on compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. Participants will gain a deep understanding of the signs, symptoms, and impact of these phenomena, as well as evidence-based strategies for prevention and self-care. Through engaging textbooks, and a document, students will learn to recognize their own stress responses and develop resilience to sustain their important work caring for others.

The Benefits of Continuing Education for Trauma Informed Care Specialists
The daily role of a trauma informed care specialist involves balancing multiple patients and providing assessments and evaluations that lead to the best outcome for both short- and long-term care of those suffering from trauma disorders, PTSD, or those suffering from past abuse. You have two years from the date of your initial enrollment to complete both courses. After passing each course exam with at least a 70% score, you are then eligible for our certification status, which grants the initials “TIC-CSp” or “Certified Trauma Informed Care Specialist” credential. AIHCP also offers recertification courses for those wanting to continue using the TIC-CSP credential in their professional titles after the initial four-year period.
