Managed Healthcare Consultant Certification Requirements and Fees
Before getting your healthcare consultant certification, you must meet one of the following prerequisite criteria to be eligible for the program:
- A registered nurse currently licensed to practice professional nursing
- A licensed social worker
- A licensed counselor
- A licensed psychologist
- A licensed physician
- A licensed healthcare professional
- A health care provider with a minimum of an associate degree with experience in managed care or case management.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in psychology, human services, or other health-related field. You must also have experience in managed health care or case management
- A health care executive, director, or manager
A licensed and experienced insurance professional is also eligible, but they will be evaluated on an individual basis for entry after evaluating their qualifications. The program itself consists of four required CE courses, with a cost total of $650 and include the courses below. This cost doesn’t factor in other materials required for specific courses, including textbooks. After completing the courses there is a $220 certification fee, plus shipping and handling, for Managed Care Certification which includes the official certificate, ID card, and other related documents. Students have two full years to complete the four courses. Courses are independent study and are self-paced with faculty mentoring as needed. You may register and pay for one course at a time.

After successfully completing the courses and becoming certified by AIHCP in Managed Health Care Consulting you may use the initials/credential of “MHCC-C” after your name which stands for “Certified Managed Health Care Consultant.” As well as access to our health care fellowship program. Fellowship status requires you to complete a minimum of 250 hours of continued education within six years from the initial application for the fellowship. Achieving Fellowship is optional after receiving certification.
Renewing Your Certification in Managed Healthcare Consulting
Your certification is valid for four years from the date of your initial certification. To continue using the credentials after that time, you will need to get recertified, specifically via AIHCP’s recertification program. The recertification fee is $220, plus shipping and handling, and you need to provide evidence of at least 50 contact hours of continuing education in the form of studies, lectures, and learning activities related to managed healthcare consulting. You will also have to show proof of at least 500 hours of practice, specifically with the certification that you want to renew, over the initial four-year certification period.
