Health Care Leadership Continuing Education Eligibility
Prerequisite for all Applicants for the Health Care Leadership Certification. Candidates for certification must meet one of the following prerequisites to enter the program:
- A registered nurse currently licensed to practice nursing.
- A licensed social worker.
- A health care licensed professional with a current and active license to practice
- A health care provider with a minimum of a bachelors degree.
- A licensed counselor or psychologist.
- Holds a bachelor’s degree or higher in psychology, human services, or other health related field.
- A health care/nurse manager/leader/charge nurse, supervisor/director.
- A licensed allied health care professional.
- A corporate trainer in health care.
- A professional health care case manager.
- A health care manager/supervisor or consultant.
- A licensed physician.
- Or is currently employed in a health care setting with a minimum of five (5) years of work experience and is in a position that includes management/supervisory duties; or is in a position in which a supervisor verifies that the current position is one in which the candidate has the potential to be assigned management responsibilities or be promoted to a position of management/supervision in the future.

Certified Health Care Leadership Continuing Education Courses
The Health Care Leadership Certification program from AIHCP consists of three courses totaling $500. You may enroll and pay for one course at a time if you wish or pay for the entire program at once. These courses are online and independent study with mentorship as needed.. Students will receive a unique student ID number and password to access each course. The courses feature a comprehensive syllabus and course information which explains and instructs the student about the process of the course. Students have access to the online classrooms at all times. All examinations are taken online. Many courses also have supplementary videos.. The cost of the courses does not include the cost of required textbooks.
The following CE Courses are required to complete the Health Care Leadership Curriculum to qualify for Certification with American Institute of Health Care Professionals.
HM 530 – Leadership in Health Care Management
This Leadership course is designed to provide the student with the ability to distinguish the difference between a leader and a manager and note that managers are not automatically leaders. Managers and leaders have different expectations as managers deal with the present and leaders deal with the future. The topics covered in this course are applicable to all sizes of healthcare organizations as the healthcare industry has entered an era of unprecedented change. At the same time, the work of healthcare organizations continues amid a high level of scrutiny from regulatory agencies that examine the quality of care, operational processes, financial performance and patient safety. The student will learn that organizations with leaders who are able to integrate innovations and operations, planning, coordination, adaptability and reputation will be successful and have a sustainable future in the industry. The development of Master leaders who are capable of establishing a balance between the forces of certainty and transformation will be the winners. In the course we attempt to define the extraordinary challenges healthcare leaders face and provide a model of leadership under which the leader can navigate the healthcare minefield of uncertainty. Students will become conversant with the Competing Values Framework as a diagnostic tool that helps leaders analyze competing tensions that exist in a complex healthcare environment develop strategic responses and options. The Communication and Collaboration section focus will focus on the values of integrity and identity and creating a professional culture. Coordination and Compliance will deal with organizational security and stability and addresses a high reliability environment.
The section devoted to Competition and Commitment covers goals and innovation and an organizations strategic response that may be developed to compete effectively. Under the Community and Credibility, the student learns how to lead relationships with internal and external constituencies and how joint accountability becomes a factor when dealing with the community. Patient satisfaction becomes a focal point and the future leader is taught to consider a community perspective in decision making. The content of this course will help the student build foundational leadership knowledge and bridge the gap between theory and practice. Leadership is studied from historical, cultural and contemporary perspectives. Course Content includes a comprehensive study of multiple leadership theories. This Leadership course is designed to provide the student with the ability to distinguish the difference between a leader and a manager and note that all managers are not automatically leaders. Examples are given to relate leadership theories to actual practice. Relevant skills, tools, abilities and education are addressed. A students personal leadership style is also profiled by encouraging them to develop a personal leadership development plan. Emphasis is placed on leadership competencies required to successfully in the healthcare arena. The competition for scarce organizational resources impact on leadership styles is a big part of the discussion. Leadership theories are also reviewed in the context of how intricately complex our healthcare system has become. Healthcare leadership’s relationship to healthcare Ethics puts an ethical framework in the forefront of our studies. Practical applications of leadership theories are differentiated by positive or negative outcomes. Modeling techniques add perspective and allow for the consideration of leadership options in practice. Our text also provides a future look at potential leader actions and the effect of globalization and world views. The impact that a leader’s decisions have on the local community served and society is analyzed as well. We also take a look at how effective leaders manage poor performing employees. The Benefits of Continuing Education for Health Care Leaders.
The daily role of a health care leader involves multiple leadership roles and responsibilities that are vital to an healthcare organization’s success. The courses offered by AIHCP train professionals in leadership strategies and skills and their application in a healthcare setting. The skills and lessons learned from these courses help healthcare professionals become qualified leaders in multiple roles and situations within healthcare.
Students have two years from the date of their initial enrollment to complete the three courses. After passing each course exam with at least a 70% score, one is eligible for AIHCP’s Health Care Leadership Certification, which grants the student a “HCL-C” or “Certified Health Care Leader” credential. AIHCP also offers recertification courses for those wanting to continue using the credential in their professional titles after the initial four-year period.
