CI 540 – Crisis & Trauma Counseling

COURSE INFORMATION

This course provides an introduction to the theories and practice of crisis intervention with special concentration in traumatic events/circumstances experienced by clients of all ages. Students will study the application of trauma theory and counseling to many types of populations. Issues of many types of losses and grief reactions will be examined. Assessment parameters for clients’ coping skills will be studied. Other course content examined includes physiological effects of trauma, loss and bereavement, suicide and its intervention and defense mechanisms, and common fears of clients. Students also study all facets of post-traumatic stress disorder and learn cognitive approaches to treatment interventions. Course Code: CI 540. Contact hours of continuing education = 40.

Prerequisites: must have completed CI 500, CI 510, CI 520 and SM 530, before enrolling in this course.

TIME FRAME: You are allotted two years from the date of enrollment, to complete this course as well as all of the courses in the Crisis Intervention Consulting continuing education program. There are no set time-frames, other than the two year allotted time, to complete all of the courses in this program. If you do not complete the course within the two-year time-frame, you will be removed from the course and an “incomplete” will be recorded for you in our records. Also, if you would like to complete the course after this two-year expiration time, you would need to register and pay the course tuition fee again.

You will receive notice of your total % score. Those who score below the minimum of 70% will be contacted by the instructor at American Institute of Health Care Professionals, Inc. and options for completing additional course work to achieve a passing score will be presented.
