An Anger Management Specialist is a health care professional, with specialized certification to treat clients struggling with chronic anger and aggression. The principal goal of these professionals is to bring about positive changes in behavior. They work with clients to identify what causes their anger or other emotions, how they react physiologically and psychologically and what they can do instead of fighting and staying angry. AIHCP’s program helps behavioral health care professionals and those in ministry better able to help others properly cope with the emotion of anger and better channel it in positive ways.
Anger Management Specialists utilize a variety of assessment and diagnostic tools to help understand clients. They help not only counsel, but teach clients about the anger cycle, the nature of triggers, escalation, de-escalation and emotional regulation. In addition, they utilize a variety of therapies and skills within their scope of individual professional practice such as stress management and other behavioral modification modalities.
Many licensed counselors and social workers receive additional certifications, such as Anger Management, to enhance their resume and skill set. In addition to licensed behavioral health professionals, the certification is also open to non-clinical professionals in pastoral ministries.
