Resume – John Pitselos

John Pitselos, Ph.D., CAP, CMHC

Hello! My name is John Pitselos, Ph.D., CAP, CMHC.  I live in south Florida and am originally a native of Brooklyn, New York.

My career started as recreation and occupational therapist at Bronx Psychiatric Center in 1970. I had talent with my hands and was able to relate well with the patients. These skills, along with music, dance and art, were vehicles to reach the severely mentally ill. I unexpectedly found that I liked psychology. So, I went back to school, in the day, at night, and while working fulltime. I received a BA, MA, and, finally, a Ph.D. in Applied Psychological Research and Program Evaluation, from Hofstra University.

In the mid 1980’s I began to specialize in addiction and dual diagnosis treatment.  I received CAC’s in New York and Florida, a national CEAP certification and am a Certified Mental Health Counselor in Florida.

I work full-time in a 125 bed addiction treatment facility. I am also an adjunct online professor of psychology and teach live classroom CE classes for addiction counselors.

As a clinical director, I enjoy supervising and training addiction counselors, social workers and mental health counselors in the field. I currently have interns from local colleges in all these fields. I like to see the progress that counselors make when they apply their academic education and natural talents to the real world.
