PT 460 – Physical, Emotional and Pastoral Care of the Dying Patient

COURSE INFORMATION

This CE course looks at the needs of the dying patient within the scope of the totality of the human person.  It answers the needs of the dying from more than just a physical aspect but also an emotional, spiritual and pastoral way that incorporates end of life care as also a spiritual vocation that involves seeing God in everyone.  It covers all the end of life questions that plague doctors, nurses, social workers, hospice care givers, chaplains, counselors and family.  With an up to date text and a few other articles from the author of the course, many aspects that pastoral care givers will face are examined in detail. Upon completion of this course, students are awarded 40 contact hours of continuing education credits. Course Code: PT 460.

This course is particularly designed for those who would like to apply for Certification as a Pastoral Care Thanatologist with the American Institute of Health Care professionals

TIME FRAME: You are allotted two years from the date of enrollment, to complete this course as well as all of the courses in the Pastoral Thanatology program. There are no set time-frames, other than the two year allotted time. If you do not complete the course within the two-year time-frame, you will be removed from the course and an “incomplete” will be recorded for you in our records. Also, if you would like to complete the course after this two-year expiration time, you would need to register and pay the course tuition fee again.

GRADING: You must achieve a passing score of at least 70% to complete this course and receive the 40 hours of awarded continuing education credit. There are no letter grades assigned. You will receive notice of your total % score. Those who score below the minimum of 70% will be contacted by the American Academy of Grief Counseling and options for completing additional course work to achieve a passing score will be presented.

  • To hear and be a true advocate of the voice of the dying patient
  • To understand the nature of hospice
  • To be able to identify the ethics and morality of near death decisions of the patient and to be able to offer advice and solutions to the family
  • To be better equipped to be the compassionate and spiritual care giver that bridges the doctor and the family/patient
