COURSE INFORMATION

This CE course is designed for but not limited to students who want to RE-Certify their Healthcare Ethics Certification(HCEC-C) with AIHCP. It focuses on the major components of Ethics and Management Dilemmas in Healthcare as applied to Healthcare Administration. This course will provide a deeper dive for those Healthcare professionals who want to enhance their balance of ethics of service to patients with sound business decisions. The Healthcare Manager’s ethical responsibilities and their business case for ethics management is a focus of this text. Potential students may include hospital administrators, nurse managers, working supervisors, assistant managers, department managers, Hospice employees and those healthcare professionals who are members of or work with their organizations Ethics decision makers. In addition, Nurses and Consultants practicing in the Legal field and Cases Managers can benefit from this course as well. All are welcome to complete this course for education credits.

We recognize that managers need a sound understanding of Ethics in Healthcare Administration and how it affects their working environment.  Our goal is to build upon your ethics foundation, with sufficient guidance, and enough information about Ethics in Healthcare Administration to be beneficial to your work life. This knowledge will be helpful for both prospective and sitting managers to be successful in the daily running of their departments and managing the challenges that those who work in healthcare. We will review many of the typical challenges and complexities that healthcare professionals face, such as: medical errors, physician impairment, coworker conflicts, gender discrimination and staff shortages. Much of your learning will involve reviewing actual cases. Seldom do ethical dilemmas in healthcare involve a single issue. The type of issues we will be reviewing are complex and interrelated with multiple variables which makes your study of them that much more interesting.

Our goal is to create an awareness about doing the right thing the right way. Study how and why decisions are made that are both fiscally sound and ethically based. TIME FRAME: You are allotted two years from the date of enrollment, to complete this course. There are no set time-frames, other than the two year allotted time. If you do not complete the course within the two-year time-frame, you will be removed from the course and an “incomplete” will be recorded for you in our records. Also, if you would like to complete the course after this two-year expiration time, you would need to register and pay the course tuition fee again.

GRADING: You must achieve a passing score of at least 70% to complete this course and receive the 40 hours of awarded continuing education credit. There are no letter grades assigned. You will receive notice of your total % score. Those who score below the minimum of 70% will be contacted by the American Institute of Health Care Professionals and options for completing additional course work to achieve a passing score, will be presented.
