CI 620 – Trauma Informed Care

COURSE INFORMATION

Loss, pain, and suffering are all parts of the universal human experience.  When loss, pain and suffering exceed limits due to intensity, trauma can emerge in pockets of the population.  Whether human caused or by the forces of nature, trauma can leave deep emotional scars on men, women, and children that present difficulties in healing.  Trauma Informed Care recognizes the universal extent of trauma on humanity and specializes in identifying and treating the trauma survivor.  It also provides for the victim/survivor the safety, security and trust needed to again become whole and healed.

This CE course discusses the nature of trauma, how it manifests, its mental and physical effects, how to help others heal from it and how to protect oneself as a counselor from secondary effects of trauma.  Those in counseling, social work, human services, healthcare, and pastoral care and ministries need to be equipped with these skills to meet the needs of those inflicted with trauma due to violence, abuse, disaster, or devastating loss.   The purpose of the course is aimed to help these mental health and healthcare professionals to be better equipped to identify trauma and treat trauma in a broken and trauma filled world.
