ALNC 620 – Advanced LNC II : Issues in Acute & Critical Care

Course Information

OVERVIEW: this course continues in the study and analysis of nursing malpractice issues and cases more specifically related to clinical practice of various common issues in the delivery of acute care and critical care. Students will study common malpractice claims related to critical care practice and perioperative practice. Subjects covered include medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, as well as sub acute care and long-term care. Liability issues related to patient assessment and care planning are also examined. Students will also examine liabilities and cases related to advanced practice nursing. Course Code: ALNC 620. 45 hours of continuing education credit.

Prerequisite: You must have successfully complete the continuing education course ALNC 600: Advanced LNC I: Theories and Specialties, before you can enroll into this course.

TIME FRAME: You are allotted two years from the date of enrollment, to complete this course. There are no set time-frames, other than the two year allotted time. If you do not complete the course within the two-year time-frame, you will be removed from the course and an “incomplete” will be recorded for you in our records. Also, if you would like to complete the course after this two-year expiration time, you would need to register and pay the course tuition fee again.

Assignment/Exam: this course consists of the student developing a comprehensive Learning Portfolio. The learning portfolio is a study/guide format in which students respond to specific questions as they read/study the text materials. Upon completing the learning portfolio, you will turn it in to the American College of Legal Nurse Consulting for grading. This course also includes one objective-type examination, taken online. The objective examination will include materials covered in this course, as well as the materials covered in ALNC 600.
