My approach to spiritual counseling is developmental trauma-informed & psycho-biological. I work with clients who are on spiritual paths who still feel disconnected from their aliveness, authentic self, others & source/god. Besides my 2 year spiritual counseling training with One Spirit Interfaith NYC, I’m also a certified practitioner of Dr. Laurence Heller’s Neuro-Affective-Relational Model (NARM) for healing developmental trauma and Dr. Raja Selvam's Integral Somatic Psychology (ISP). Both NARM and ISP are informed by spiritual traditions. In NARM we use psycho-biological tools to help clients connect with their aliveness/authentic self, to expand/connect with their spiritual selves. With ISP, we use our body (applying principles from osteopathy, Bioenergetics, Bodynamics, Polarity therapy, Meridiens etc) and subtle energy bodies (chakras, collective intelligence etc.) to embody/complete emotions that have been split off in early life. Patterns may then let go of us. I am currently training in Intentional Transforming Touch (TEB) with Stephen J. Terrell, PsyD which is primarily for fetus/infant trauma. Also, I am in my 3rd year of Somatic Experiencing training (SE) for shock trauma.
Spiritually bypassing our early history is not uncommon for some of us who seek spiritual paths to alleviate suffering. For some, transcendence, light and other spiritual work is transformative enough to embody their joy and aliveness. For others, we may be spiritually "advanced" but not embodied or separated-individuated from our psychological parents, feeling "trapped" in patterns and reacting to circumstances & people from child consciousness. I was on a spiritual path for 28 years before I was able to digest my early history with a psycho-spiritual teacher, Miranda Macpherson, and early trauma therapy including NARM. Some of our histories can include abandonment, neglect, abuse, premature or unwanted birth, mis-attunement from parents who didn't know/ were stressed/had early trauma themselves or transgenerational trauma etc. My 3 decades in my spiritual path allows me to create a sacred container and sit with Presence and compassion while in connection with divine grace.
As a spiritual counselor, I use tools from NARM, ISP, TEB & SE to support clients to work with their nervous system dysregulation, disruptions in early attachment, distortions in identity (i.e. not able to be our authentic selves). I also open to grace/divine guidance and trust that their soul and their innate life energy that’s been blocked by old patterns, knows the way back to their wholeness. Please be aware that I am not a licensed psychotherapist or mental health counselor. So I'm not able to work with anyone with a mental health diagnosis unless they have a licensed therapist/counselor as their primary provider. I'm passionate about supporting people on spiritual paths to embody the fullness of their lives.
